Honestly I don't know why Trump would try to pay her to be quiet. I mean, this is the kind of thing that would end Mitt Romney's career but after two divorces and 40 years of a history of adultery, and the Access Hollywood tape, is anyone really surprised by this???
Didn't we all agree in 1998 that a President's marital infidelity doesn't mean he can't be a good president? It's kind of weird how it's flipped. Democrats are shocked, SHOCKED that the guy who spent his entire life bragging about sleeping with porn stars... slept with a porn star.

I don't think anyone cares about Trump's marital infidelity - not the democrats and especially not the "family values" crowd busily championing him.
> Didn't we all agree in 1998 that a President's marital infidelity doesn't mean he can't be a good president?
The House didn't get that memo in 1998 when another special counsel investigator was looking at the President's activities. Then they thought lying about an affair was good enough material to impeach. That was back when the GOP cared about things like perjury and obstruction of justice, even if it was only about blowjobs.
You're right though. It really is flipped. I think that's what makes it interesting to a lot of people who remember all this happening before under a different administration.

To me it's quite obvious the Democrats don't care about who Trump is having sex with, but they will latch on to anything to take him down. The family values crowd isn't pleased but they'll grin and bear it because it means a couple of conservative supreme court justices.
Kind of like states rights, which Jeff Sessions doesn't seem so keen on lately with California making itself into a sanctuary state.
No one really really believes in anything, just what benefits their tribe (in the SlateStarCodex sense of the word) at the moment.

i heard stormy daniels wants the NDA removed so she can say he had her pee on him. think about it. if there wasn't more to know then there wouldn't be any more reason for her to talk. with everything that's happened it's essentially been confirmed. getting to hear her say it happened won't really add to the conversation. something that would give more validity to the most salacious and scandalous portion of the Pee Pee Dosier would actually make the entire thing much more plausible, and that would really be something for her to add to the conversation, and a damn good reason to want out of the NDA.
wouldn't it be great if a famous pornstar and a russian hooker in a Bangkok prison end up in history books? i wonder if sections on the trump administration will require parents signing a consent form in the future.

i don't know where you're getting this, because it's really not about trump having sex outside of marriage, you're confusing people being shocked at republican incredulity and hypocrisy when it comes to Trump having done orders of magnitude more than other presidents before him accused of even similar behavior. you talk about democrats latching on to anything, when for 2 decades it has been republicans and the "family values voters" who are the ones who have always screamed the loudest over infidelity. and now to see them absolutely silent when Trump is shown to have paid a pornstar for sex, bought her silence, and then openly lied about it. and continues to do so. not to mention the endless litany of women accusing him of literal sexual assault.
it is just bizzare, and i think you're confusing democrats asking what happened to the outrage as the same kind of sleezy attacks as the ones coming from the right at every opportunity. i don't give a shit if trump fucks around on his wife, but, i DO care if the president is lying to the american people to protect his reputation, because that speaks very poorly of his character, and leads me to believe that he'll do anything and say anything and tell any lie he needs to tell to try and protect himself.
just like bill clinton. so i wonder, where IS the outrage? they'll grin and bear it, because honestly, after that shit show of an election and the cult following and people's straight up denials about the truth that people have been telling them for two years - it's too embarrassing for them to admit they were so absolutely and totally wrong about this mans character. they think they're good judges of people, but they are not, and this flies in the face of their ability to judge people and place them neatly into boxes like "good" and "bad."
> Kind of like states rights, which Jeff Sessions doesn't seem so keen on lately with California making itself into a sanctuary state. > > No one really really believes in anything, just what benefits their tribe (in the SlateStarCodex sense of the word) at the moment.
what you're seeing is the unraveling of a giant bit of wool that's been pulled over the eyes of the entire GOP. but just because the GOp is being exposed as entirely corrupt and disingenuous in their beliefs that doesn't mean that there aren't good people out there who are working in the best interest of the people. i can understand why you'd want to take such a vastly cynical view as this, that everyone is just some selfish low life crook defrauding the nation for personal gain, this is not the truth. you're projecting the lack of values of the trump administration and many of the leaders of the GOP and painting everyone with the same brush to make yourself feel better about the abject failure of Trump and his platform.
dump the stupid fucker, and rebuild the fucking party without the fucking criminals. it's your party, fucking fix it, don't sit there and point fingers at everyone and say there's nothing to be done - especially when you can't point to even close to the same number of criminal indictments amongst democratic administration.
the republican party is sick, pointing to the healthy party and saying "everyone dies eventually" is no way to eliminate a disease.

It could also be that Republican voters actually cared more about America First and immigration than family values. If they wanted the evangelical family values thing Ted Cruz would have won the Republican primary hands down. Instead, a socially liberal (by GOP standards) New Yorker won.
> but, i DO care if the president is lying to the american people to protect his reputation, because that speaks very poorly of his character, and leads me to believe that he'll do anything and say anything and tell any lie he needs to tell to try and protect himself.
Did you care when the president lied to the American people about having sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky?
> and now to see them absolutely silent when Trump is shown to have paid a pornstar for sex, bought her silence, and then openly lied about it.
Again, after the Access Hollywood tape, 40 years of Trump tabloid sex coverage, two divorces, who is surprised at this point? This would only make sense if Trump had portrayed himself to be a "family values" man and he never has. He's not running for Pope.

Yes this is going to alienate Trump's base. The guy who bragged about sleeping with pornstars slept with a porn star. It's all over now. We thought Trump was a chaste saint, but he betrayed us by fucking a porn star. WONT SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?

With what? A rotating staff of Russian intelligence shills and inexperienced campaign donors? I don't see him making the GOP great again. Remember when the left was full of wild-eyed conspiracy theorists waving poorly spelled signs and the people on the right offered measured, rational solutions based on evidence? That has flipped too, and I don't see Trump turning that around.

There's a lot of inertia and it's and it's gonna take some time. He has to clean up 30 years of GOP crud. It's like steering a big ship - it's not going to do a 180 right away. We're only 27% of the way through Trump's first term. A lot is going to happen in the remaining 73%.
