Topic: In the movie "Bruce Almighty", when the rule of not interferring with free will was laid out.

Does this also include manipulation through means such as language? If I were given the powers of God then I would utilize them to write the most inspirational words that could manipulate others into a certain way of thinking much like we've been doing since the dawn of written language. I had to read the "I Have A Dream" speech and analyses the use of Pathos, Logos, and Ethos in it for an in-class assignment. That speech was really good at hitting on all three of them and managed to become the most memorable of any given speech in modern day America. It paved the way for change. So how come someone with God like powers couldn't utilized such abilities to write such amazing literature or speeches to sway free will without directly interfering with it?

Because God doesn't have hands to write with, he has to use people by proxy and most people aren't going to come up with the best possible choice of words to have the greatest impact. If they simply write down exactly what he says, then he's basically interfering with their lives by telling them what to write and not leaving it up to their own free will (and this is completely ignoring the fact that conversing with them counts as interference).

If you are an omnipotent god and everything you do is perfect, then any attempt you make to sway people would be perfect and perfectly accomplish exactly what you intended. Any attempt to sway only some people would amount to you intentionally setting some people up to disbelieve. Since being omnipotent would give you power to be omniscient too, then you already know how what you're going to make happen will turn out and you live in a universe devoid of any cause or effect except your will. If you are an omnipotent god, then there is no free will but yours.

Fair enough, but I was mostly referring to the movie where God is clearly portrayed as having a human body.

The film made it clear that was how god chose to appear to him. He doesn't have a human body, you're thinking of Jesus.

Now I think I understand why Morgan Freeman made that rule to Jim Carrey. Thank you.
It's because if he tries to sway humanity then he would be successful at it so the only way to not sway them is by not interfering, right?

Good point, but that wouldn't mean Jim couldn't do this since he was human prior to getting the God powers, right?

I only saw it when it was new, so I don't have much memory as to what went on in it beyond "Morgan Freeman gives Jim Carey (I think?) the God powers".

If memory serves me right. The movie was about this guy, portrayed by Jim Carrey, who starts to bad mouth God so God meets him and says that he could try being God for a day just so he can better empathize with Him. The one condition he gives him is that he cannot mess with free will, but other than that he could use his new abilities for whatever he so wished. For example, parting a bowl of tomato soup. The movie is about him having to deal with so many prayers across the world that it became too hard to distinguish each individual prayer. This lead him to have all prayers directed to him through e-mail mostly for comedic effect, but he doesn't keep up them since his inbox is always full. I'm honestly surprised that I remember quite a bit from this movie since it's been a while since I saw it and that includes the showings on TV. I guess I liked the film.

@866,057 (Catherine !TGirlYJKXM) > the only way to not sway them is by not interfering, right?
I don't know how deeply the writers thought about that, but what you said sounds good. Introducing omnipotence into a story is kind of like introducing time travel or prophecy or any other paradox-laden concept. It might work fine a story-telling device, but you have to suspend some disbelief in order to appreciate the story.

The God in that movie was not Omnipotent, so keep looking for your perfect answer, fucktard.
The fact that he discusses the existence of free will at all should tell you that.
