Back when Lincoln freed the slaves, voting republican made sense.
Then the blacks discovered republican business owners only offered janitor jobs.

It could be because African Americans make up the lower classes in society and the Republicans have a history of only caring about the needs of the upper classes. This is why I am starting to form a hypothesis that "new racism" is really more of a class issue.

I don't think you understand what that means at all. The Democratic Party of the United States is evil and always has been.

catherine, in all sincerity and honesty. i only loved the black slaves because they were poor not because they were black.

The same could be said for the Republicans. Both parties are shit. I can see why the founding fathers wanted to avoid coalitions now. This party polarization is cancerous.

@865,892 (A)
No shit.

I don't really like the whole idea of parties at all

Neither did our founding fathers, but they knew how to structure their system to ensure that it covers any given situation. I have a new appreciation for that and our government. It is nice that we can influence the laws from centuries ago and amend them to better reflect the modern day. I feel upset with myself for not voting in the Mitt Romeny / Barack Obama election since voting does matter since it influences the electoral vote. Everything has it's place. Is there room for improvement? There always is, but I feel fortunate to live in a system where I, at least, have some say in how things are ran.

You ARE the government. You don't just get to vote once every 4 years. If you want to influence politics, do it.

Yeah, I am yearning to start getting involved in politics. I started to vote (mail-in ballot) for my local measures. I voted yes on a measure that would add more police and firefighters to my city since we desperately need them. Thanks for reminding me, but I need to check to see if that passed.

call your congressperson, start or join a grassroots movement, write a new law, seek office.

I might as well ask, I've been meaning to get into contact with my congressperson, but I never had any direct issues that I wanted to contact them over. What should I talk to them about if I don't have any direct concerning issues?

Because a large bloc of the republican voting base makes it pretty clear they don't particularly like blacks?
