I think of this fictional scenario where there are two British soldiers either on the front of the thirteen colonies, South Africa campaign, or the India campaign drinking tea and conversing about how they make their tongue only speakable by true subjects of their majesty. Since they wouldn't want these "savages and barbarians" to speak their perfect language and for those who master this speech then they prove they were true subjects of the crown. They are even holding their pinkies out. I named them William and Reginald. William came up with the idea of having three different spellings for words when there was only ever a need for one. e.g. There, Their, and They're. Reginald came up with the idea of silent letters and changing pronunciations after one may already have learned how to pronounce a word a certain way so it catches the learner off-guard. William calls Reginald a "bloody good genius" and Reginald arrogantly thanks him by reminding William that he is his commanding officer.

So every time there is something that doesn't make sense in English or that you question why the fuck it's like that. Think of these two Brits and say, "Fuck you, William! Fuck you, Reginald!"
