Topic: FAO Fake Anon/other C-SPAN watchers: what's this memo thing about?

Something about this is the smoking gun that's gonna put Hillary away for good and there's a secret society at the FBI?

I've eaten too many nothingburgers to get excited about this kind of thing anymore.

Republicans claim that they have thousands of pages of evidence that there is a secret society in the FBI trying to stager a coup d’état against Trump. They summarized it all in a four page memo that they are dying to release to the public.

The FBI is kind of supposed to be secretive, that's the point of a major criminal investigation. I love how the right thinks that the FBI investigating Russiagate somehow proves there's a "deep state" that's out to get Trump.

This memo is being stored in the basement of Comet Ping Pong right next to those really incriminating emails that Trump was going to release during the election and all that proof about six million illegal voters swinging the popular vote. It's right next to that health care plan that Trump came up with that was going to cover everybody.

@previous (D)
And don't forget that this is all on the Obama wiretaps (which are stored in the pizzaria used by Hillary as a sex ring)!

the FBI has made files on pop singers since J. Edgar Hoover ran it. if you were famous enough to have any influence, they'd make a fucking file on you. the practice never stopped.

It's all very confusing. So Devin Nunes who heads the House intelligence committee claims that he saw classified Intel proving that the Obama administration used FISA courts to unlawfully/criminally spy on Trump and undermine his campaign, guaranteeing a Hillary Clinton victory that would also bury this nefarious plot. He then, based on this intel, wrote a four page memo alleging...something. He won't day what it is but he spread it around to everyone in Congress and all the Republicans say it's really bad, troubling, awful stuff. He then starts saying not only is this memo bad, the Democrats/Adam Schiff will not let him release it. Then all this noise builds about "releasing the fisa memo". Russian bots and Sean Hannity and other right wing ghoulish figures drum it up over weeks. It's all a charade, literally all that has to happen is Nunes orders a vote to release it and since repubs control the committee it gets released. The Dems have zero leverage and zero ability to do anything to stop it but Nunes keeps beating the drum. Now it's been voted to be released and it'll probably be out tomorrow. Again, no one outside of congress knows what's in it. I don't know what's in it and I'm in Congress. But everyone in the right wing punditsphere is convinced that this is gonna be it. Oh, and Democrats have a memo of their own also summarizing the contents of the intelligence, in a different (less Nunes sympathetic) manner, and the Repubs will never vote to release that one. It's all political theater.

Here's what I think the intel is. Trump hired people for his campaign. Some of them, like Carter Page and Paul Manafort, are known to the FBI Russian assets/sympathizers and crooks. The FBI is obviously very concerned that these kinds of people are close to a political campaign. Also they are most likely already under surveillance prior to joining the campaign. The FBI goes to FISA courts and says look, these guys are known bad guys, we're surveiling them, and now a presidential nominee is paying them. They must surely know these guys are crooks and pay them anyway. We need to investigate this further because no sane campaign would hire these clowns. Turns out there's a lot of funny business going on, all complicated by the fact that technically the current administration is investigating (through no malice on their part) the opposition party's candidate.

I don't get what the theory behind the Republican angle on this matter is. Any intelligence gathering operations must stop if a Presidential candidate hires the subject of one? The whole thing is absurd and honestly I'm perplexed that this is like what Nunes thought would be a winning argument.

So at best this is secondhand information (a friend of a friend saw classified intel proving that...). Since Trump is president why doesn't he just release the intel Nunes saw? Doesn't the president have the authority to declassify anything? He doesn't need the approval of anybody, democrat or otherwise, right? If so, why not just release it. I've seen his tweets and I know he doesn't care about upsetting people he doesn't like.
