Logitech M570. My old Kensington Orbit is starting to double click when I want to single click, and this has become an annoyance. It is now seven years old and I put a lot of use on it so I think I got my $30 worth out of it.
The one thing I didn't like about the Kensington Orbit is that the scroll ring is free-rolling, that is, it doesn't "click" like a regular scroll wheel on a mouse does. This means it has no resistance (especially after 7 years of being rolled back and forth), making it too easy to scroll. This was a minor annoyance in general use, but really pissed me off in gaming. I really like the ring design, I just wish Kensington had added some spring detents or something to give it a bit of resistance and feedback.
This does fit the hand better and feel a lot more comfortable than the Orbit, ergonomically speaking. It just feels nicer. fits like a glove.
It took a few hours to adjust to using my thumb but I adjusted rapidly because I'm so used to trackballs. I can feel my thumb still doesn't have the dexterity that my fingers do, but I think it will improve.

Are you going to play Agony when it comes out in March?

Trackballs are the computer equivalent of manual transmissions: they have a tiny but dedicated userbase and everyone else thinks they're obsolete and retarded.
As for Agony, maybe! I haven't heard of it before. But it looks interesting.

Slap a bit of peanut butter over the scroll ring. Wipe it off with a napkin. You may have to repeat this a few times to get the resistance.
This simulates years of use immediately

Sadly not since like 1999. They also now make an "ergo" version which costs $70(!) more because it can tilt from side to side.
I hate cordless stuff and this is the first cordless "mouse"/keyboard I've ever owned. I got it because it's like the only thumb trackball left on the market.
Why did people stop using them? They have so many advantages over mice.

Because people are generally stupid and are more interested in what's new and trendy than what is good. There's nowhere to put a laser on a trackball to make it seem flashy and modern.
I remember my friend had that particular one in your picture.

Update: It took about two days but I am now at 100% with the thumb trackball.
I also get a weird satisfaction out of the fact that my desktop and laptop have never had a mouse connected to them, ever.

I think part of the reason that trackballs fell out of favor is that it's a mechanical ball rolling around. The ball picks up dirt which blocks up the rollers the ball rolls on. I just popped the ball out and cleaned the rollers and now it's so much faster. This doesn't have any impact on the tracking, which is optical but it adds friction and makes the ball harder to roll. This causes a gradual, continual degradation of performance.

People should just wash their hands before computering and they wouldn't have that problem.
