are you that unaware of your own smell that you believe nobody knows if they smell unless someone tells them?

I only wear clothes once before washing them, and I shower twice a day. I also wear aftershave and deodorant, and use listerine and floss and brush. I may be fat, but I smell nice always.

Why can't you afford to throw your clothes away after wearing them once?

I have to work extra hard at it because of the stereotype that People of Adipose smell bad.

I mean more in real life than in media
like as in something people actually think

What Fake anon said. Maybe it's a US/Canada cultural difference?

A lot of people think fat people are gross. I've had several small children say I was fat. My 4 year old niece always tells me I have a big tummy. They haven't learned how to filter yet. I know adults think the same things but are polite enough not to verbalize it.

saying you're fat isn't the same as thinking you're gross

Some people don't tell you that you smell bad.
They simply avoid you, actively work to not have you around them, and talk with others about how to get rid of you and your terrible smell.

Fat people do seem to smell worse. They sweat more and its harder for them to clean themselves

It goes a bit deeper than odor. There's a perception that fat people lack self control (arguably true, in my experience at least). I mean, I could just put the fork down, start watching Richard Simmons videos and hit the gym, right? But I find it incredibly hard to lose weight. Even though I understand my obesity is detrimental to my health and I know logically what must be done to lose weight.
It's interesting how we as a society view people with defects. We'd be totally understanding of someone's physical disabilities, but mental disabilities get short shrift. I think obesity is a mental disability. I don't think anyone would willingly chose something that destroys their knees and lower back and shortens their life.
