Redragon Kumara K552. This nicely complements my new NuVision tablet (replacing a Samsung Galaxy Tab S) as I move away from having real brand electronics and move toward Chinese off brand electronics.
As you know I've been using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard for a couple of years and I really like it but I find the keys a bit mushy and I wish it was backlit.
This is definitely not mushy and very crisp (and very backlit), it's like replacing your lover's pudding with celery in terms of tactile sensation. I like the sound too, it's got that real hacker sound like in Hollywood movies when they hack into the database or whatever, this is what that sounds like. It's extremely clicky and quite loud, I wouldn't want to use this around other people.
I really enjoy the tactile feeling. I still find myself bottoming out the keys (as one must do with a rubber dome keyboard) but I really like the fact that once the key has clicked it's guaranteed to have registered the keystroke.
This is both my first backlit and my first mechanical keyboard. The switches are Oetemu blue which is supposed to be equivalent to Cherry MX blue.

I agree it's definitely ugly. Also the way shift keys are presented. Like on a normal keyboard it's presented with the shifted key on top, e.g
%
5
But on this, the shifted key is to the right:
5%
It's weird but makes just as much sense as the normal way (they never said which direction the shift key shifts).

Enjoy your're mushy rubber dome trash!!!

Does that keypad funtion as a 10-key or is it only for cursor control keys (Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, etc.)?
Can you turn the backlighting off without a soldering iron?

No, it's 10-key less. The only way to enter numbers is with top row, just like a typewriter. Which nicely complements the way it feels like an IBM Selectric, which also didn't have a 10-key. It's retro.

Red backlighting is easier on the eyes at night or in darkened rooms. Which is why Redragon has it and Apple does not. Thanks.

Infrared backlighting is even easier on the eyes. Switch out those red LEDs for some high-intensity IR LEDs. You can have the same kind of battery drain for an even better experience. Also, your keyboard might fuck with CCDs in some older cameras to make it harder for the man to see what you are typing on your hacker keyboard.

I think I might have to return it. After the Microsoft Egomaniac 4000, everything else feels like some kind of medieval torture device. The 4000 has horrible mushy rubber dome keys but the way it fits my body with the tenting and negative elevation and the soft leatherette padded palmrests just feels so good.
I put the 4000 back on my desk tonight to do some statistics homework (the Redragon is tenkeyless) and I was just shocked at how nice it felt (well except for how mushy the keys feel, it's like typing on Jello).

It's actually quite nice, just not as plush as what I'm used to. It's like going from a Lincoln Town Car to an Lotus Elise. You have to choose between ultimate comfort (with terrible handling) or ultimate handling (with terrible comfort).

Why can't you afford an IBM™ Model M™ with an USB conversion (pronounced as one word)?

And you'll be uncomfortable knowing this was written on Redragon K552 with Oetemu blue premium imitation Cherry MX switches.
