Spending the next six months embroiled in impeachment proceedings is going to suck all the oxygen out of the room and not allow any other significant legislation to happen while also cratering turnout among their own voters. Why would they do that to themselves? Trump would literally sign a document declaring every Monday "Trump is a fat cuck day" if it was put on his desk. He doesn't give a shit what congress does and that's good enough for them.

The Constitution prohibits pardons for impeachment but I don't think it prevents him from pardoning himself for other things.

Oh yes I am aware re impeachment HOWEVER He could prior to impeachment pardon himself for all crimes committed of any nature - Then Senate will find it difficult to charge him because he could make himself self innocent -
If however he has defrauded the IRS I believe IRS could recover and fine him and recover all the money.
