Why Thailand? I can see them not caring about use, and letting it slide, but fully legalizing takes some political power. Most 3rd world countries will bend over for the DEA.

Just recently several former world leaders, including the former UN-secretary general endorsed full decriminalization, with the possibility of legalizing weed.
The US has been becoming much more tolerant as well. Medical weed, and decriminalization is passing in many states. Connecticut just decriminalized today/yesterday.

The process started in November 2010 when the government started talking about making the marijuana cafes ‘members only’, effectively barring tourists from purchasing pot. This could potentially create massive problems for the cafes, as they would need access to government databases to know who is a citizen and who is not. There is also a European law stating that citizens of Europe must be treated the same throughout all European countries.
This has been done previously in Maastricht in 2005. In December 2010 the European Court of Justice ruled that the city was within its rights to ban foreigners from purchasing cannabis. The judge felt that the goal of combating narco-tourism was worth the restriction. Neighbouring countries such as Belgium and Germany have also cited drug tourism as a source of petty nuisances.

Hey eye keep CNN usually on in background and news flys by n eye pick up dis and dat.
I think its a great country and have visited often in past with MY OWN Money- Traveled the world for years on USA Gov money and for a decade on Qualcomm inc money but never did get US Gov or Qualcomm inc to pay for Netherlands, albeit they would have sent me anywhere I wanted too for just play on occasions. It just never did fit in2 my plans ...that is the play tyme plans. (on other peoples money)
I think the way they handle the drug issue is spot on and wood only change it to placate neighbors. Maybe a wink of the eye with laws on books but perhaps no money to send in the law to c if they are in2 comply
