Topic: I've made a decision, but I still have a choice to make

If i'm going to boost my death knight then i can either boost the one i've got, Old Gringo the Gnome, or i can start over and make a new one. this is Old Gringo the death knight. had him since Wrath of the Lich King. he's only a level 64, which is a really low level death knight, they start at level 55. I didn't play him much, but he was my first foray into tanking. the plan was to level him up as a gatherer and use him to help boost professions, and i did use him to gather everything up to about level 60, but i never took him past level 64. death knights are alright, back in the day they were actually pretty powerful, but i kinda hated them back then.

i hated death knights for 3 reasons. since they start at level 55 people kinda considered them like a free character. back in the day the slog was 1-60 more than 60-70 or even 70-80. so skipping the longest part made everyone want "a free alt." so everyone had a DK. and since you start out with them having basically all their abilities hardly anyone knew how to use them. there wasn't a long, slow learning process, you just kinda get everything all at once and have to figure it out. that meant most people were absolute shit with them and had only played them for a few hours before grouping up for dungeons and whatnot.

so first reason, most people were just shit with them.

second reason i hated DKs is because they have a tanking spec and the fastest way to level is as a tank and spamming dungeons. so a bunch of shit players with very little knowledge of their class decide to tank their way to the level cap. for a very long time pretty much every dungeon run was being done with a shitty DK tank who was equipped with DPS gear and couldn't hold threat or aggro to save anyone's life.

so most death knights made shitty tanks, and they always wanted to tank. and the third reason i hated them is i don't actually really like the playstyle all that much. it actually doesn't make sense to me, never really has. it has always seemed like a mish mash of other classes and it seems like the devs couldn't figure out what they wanted to do with them, so they kinda did everything with them. they have melee abilities, they have ranged attacks, they have casts and they have instants and they do channeling. they have a resource pool and gain "Rage/Fury" as they do damaging attacks or can build it passively over time depending on what talents you choose. And they also have Runes, which are a second kind of resource pool that work like rogue Combo points. and they can have pets/minions like this undead ghoul making them kinda like hunters or warlocks. death knights are really kinda weird.

but, i've heard that they have the best story in Legion from what i hear. the "class fantasy" is supposedly great, so i kinda want to level one just for that.

so the choice is between boosting Old Gringo, my original, or make a new one that's not so stupid looking. i ended up not being a fan of gnomes at all. the voice overs are really pretty grating with their whiny little gnome voices. but he is vastly different than my mostly human and night elf characters. but he's not connected to any of their back stories in any meaningful way.

i could totally retcon an undead death knight brother to my rogue and priest if i change him to a human. most of you will remember that my rogue and priest had a brother who died from the plague and he totally could've become a death knight. but he couldn't have become a gnome, so, either i start him over as a human or i just keep the gnome and i guess just ignore him as having backstory.

i kinda don't care to develop, like, a wholly independent backstory for a death knight when my warrior doesn't even really have much fleshed out. at this point i've got as many rag-tag alts as i have alts with developed stories. and i'm already getting lazy by considering my night elves as all being from the same clan. so my demon hunter and druid are loosely related and a future Void Elf will probably end up from the same clan too depending on how that all works out.

so do i just say fuck it and retcon in an undead death knight brother for my human "family" or do i keep the gnome and figure something else out?

like, i'm this close to just shipping my warrior and my priest so i can at least say there's a connection to him somewhere, but i'm pretty sure my rogue isn't hooking up with an undead gnome. she's very racist and just barely tolerates gnomes and dwarves to begin with, but she really fucking hates the undead.

Keep it to one thread. Thanks.

this is about the only reason i'm considering keeping him a gnome. they ride mechanical chickens as mounts. that and i guess i don't want to bother doing the starting zone again, which is unskippable. it doesn't take long, like 45 minutes, but it's a long 45 minutes it feels like.
