the melee spec is called Feral and you shapeshift into a lion and attack with claws and teeth.
i was more interested in the other specs, which were much slower to level until you hit higher levels and unlock enough spells to make the casters as speedy as the cat.

druids can tank too, as a shapeshifted bear, but i'm not a fan personally. looks kinda boring. again you use claws and teeth, and roars to draw threat.

the ranged DPS is usually known as Boomkin and takes the form of a Moonkin owl creature thing and is long range nature spells. it's generally fairly strong in each expansion but the druids are usually kinda middle of the road everything in my experience with them. they are a jack of all trades class because they have 4 specs, one for every role. they don't truly excel at anything except versatility.
druids can fill any role, and swap in and out quickly. i've seen good druids pick up tanking for bad tanks and save encounters just by switching to bear form.

there's a 4th form for healing, it's a tree. you're a walking tree, and you heal with nature, uh, energy i guess. she doesn't have tree form yet, not sure when she gets that. mostly i'm interested in the boomkin because it has a lot of mobility for a caster and you use a lot of instant abilities.
i've got a free character boost to level 100 and i've got to figure out of it's going to a druid or a death knight. i kinda hate giving it to a death knight who starts at level 55.
right now she's level 20 and is kitted out in almost every heirloom type she can equip. the only heirlooms she doesn't have are rings, so she's equipped with 45% experience gain from everything that grants experience. rings would add another 10% with both. she levels up super fast at the moment, gaining 2 levels per dungeon run right now. kinda seems like getting to the expacs will be trivial with this many heirlooms.

kinda splurged on the heirlooms, too. i bought like 30k gold worth or so. heirlooms are pieces of gear (armor, trinkets, jewelry, weapons) that scale with your character level. as you gain levels your armor increases in stats. they are generally very strong, even compared to epics. they are nearly legendary quality items with excellent stats. many also have secondary stats, such as 10% experience gain, etc.
they're meant for alts, you have to have a max level character to even buy them. but once you've got them any character can equip them. they're fairly expensive though, and need to be upgraded. 500g gets you (1-60) and then 1000g upgrades them (60-90) and then for 5000g you can squeak out that last (90-100) which is arguably when you need them the most. so all in all each character can equip ultimately a set of heirlooms worth around 50,000g each. per spec if you level them all.
leveling heirlooms gets expensive fast. but i haven't alts go beyond level 60 with heirlooms, it's been years since i leveled something from scratch.

hmm. no wonder most people use travel form

This way I can avoid watching youtubes
with people speaking British English and still learn about games.
Squeegee's sneaky titles make finding these threads a pleasant surprise when I'm bored and listlessly clicking on Minichan topics I wouldn't otherwise check.
Stay sneaky Sgt. Squeegee.

alright, while you're writing that up i'll talk about her backstory, which again is pretty loose. she's a night elf but spent most of her time leveling among the Draenei. i dunno how elves do families or clans or whatever, but Thaiis is i guess from the same enclave as my two other night elves. the demon hunter you know, and the mage is brand new. made it just to fuck around with. i won't keep the mage. need that slot for a Void Elf in the next expac. a Void Elf Mage, i guess.
anyway, she's going with herbalism and Inscription as her professions. both of which i think are probably boring as fuck but they're like the only things i don't already have.
i'm also remembering why i disliked playing druid so much, it's not so much that i dislike the specs or abilities, it's that the druid UI is really wonky compared to, like, i think literally every other class. you have way, way more action bars, not just one per spec, but one main one per spec and three off spec action bars for
each spec. so it feels like everytime i have the action bars all setup i realize there's actually still 9 more to do! it's like fuck, there's an action bar for bear form in boomkin spec and an actionbar for travel form in cat spec, and every combination of form and spec you can think of.
big pain in the ass. got her up to level 25 with another couple of dungeon runs. i haven't had to really do any questing since level 15 when dungeon queues unlocked. pretty much now she just rides around looking for herbs and running dungeons as a ranged damage dealer. skipping past whole zones, pretty much. just grabbing flight points and move on.
eventually spamming dungeons won't work as well and questing will be the faster way to level, but i'm not sure at what point that'll happen.
she's super spoiled, i can tell you that, what with all the customized heirlooms and free 16 slot bags and an entire bank vault all paid for. she's also starting off with a huge variety of vanity items and mounts, including several utility items like mobile banks and personal vendors riding on her mount. now, my other alts really never wanted for much either. if they needed money for riding lessons or their first slow-horse, they had it, but, this is a whole nother level of affluent.
my rogue had it rough, literally picking every pocket she could manage and looting corpses for trash to sell to vendors for copper. even my first alts paid for everything themselves first and only when they were totally broke would my main or her banker alt intervene. my alts were all there to help boost my main in some way, usually with materials from gathering, so they kinda had it rough too. but
they never went a single level without flying. my rogue got it when she could afford it.
but these new alts coming up have got it
easy.
which is interesting because they're also all so fucking poor. like Garegarah, he's got like less than 12 grand to his name. my rogue has burned through, fucking, easily half a million and is sitting on almost 200k in savings. so why can't garegarah pull his shit together? he just likes to ride around on his rocket dragon and act like king of azeroth. now, my priest is doing somewhat better, but she's at like 40k. same with Totum, she's around there too. but that's a far cry from having earned hundreds of thousands.
i bet when Thaiis get to the cap she'll be nothing but a money sink.
you know what, boosting her would absolutely send her the wrong message. she'd never do anything and waste everyone else's gold on her inscription training
that she'd never use. and 20 minutes a week harvesting herbs isn't going to get her to Master level anything. either she does the work herself, or she doesn't get to come to the Battle for Azeroth expansion like everyone else.
this settles it, the character boost is going to my stupid Death Knight, Old Gringo.
