been thinking i want a .380 of some kind and so i was up at the range earlier checking them out. i've kinda been wanting a small pocket gun for a while, cause they're fucking awesome, and i've specifically been told by a dude who knows more about guns than anyone i've ever met that a .380 is a solid choice despite what anyone says about the advantages of 9mm. in his opinion you go with whatever you shoot best with and worry about "stopping power" after you think about magazine capacity. again, in his opinion more capacity beats stopping power especially if you can put the capacity on target rather than put stopping power off target. granted, most .380s i've looked at only carry 7 rounds, about the same as most 9mm but there are larger guns that can load 17 rounds.
i ended up looking at a Sig Sauer p238 chambered in .380 acp and a couple of others, but the Sig was the real standout. very nice gun. they make both metal and composite versions, i did shoot the composite version and it was great. I also shot a Sig 9mm, i don't know what model, but they pulled it to show me the size similarity. it's virtually the same gun. it's actually possible it is the same gun but chambered in 9mm. but i think it was slightly larger and a unique model. i did not like it as much. actually shot it first, and then shot the .380. it seems like most "real" gun enthusiasts don't consider anything under 9mm to be a "real" gun for personal protection, but i think a lot of people are ridiculous caliber queens. i of course understand the idea behind stopping power, and i am aware of things like hydrostatic shock and how that is an attribute of caliber size, but i do have a .40 for that. which is also a compact gun made for concealed carry. and that .380 shot like a dream.
the dude watching the lanes even commented on it after seeing me shoot with both. it has been a while since i shot regularly though. he did point out how many more good groupings i had. with the 9mm (i was shooting at a target with 5 smaller targets arranged in an X on a larger paper target) he wasn't always sure which target of the 5 i was aiming for, but with the .380 it was clear which one i was shooting at. cause i was hitting them. mostly. from 30 meters. the little targets were 8 inches across. ish.
so i really fucking liked it. and i think i'm going to have to get it. and there was another that i saw that, oh man, it's good looking. it's an HK 9mm and it's fucking sexy. it's also 900 bucks. it's full size, but man. threaded barrel and everything. holds, like, an infinite clip. i dunno why i think HK makes "the best" guns, probably because they make nothing but expensive ass guns and they're imports and so my younger self was convinced expensive meant quality, and even though i know better now i still think they're the best. never even shot one.
so i guess i'm still not sure what i'm going to do. i guess i could go the other way and look at full length full sized 9mm and actually consider something like the HK or a comparable less expensive but full sized pistol. since i do have something appropriate for concealed carry already.
or i might have to just go nuts and get something unusual for fun. i've got a gift card to spend so maybe just getting like a .22 with a silencer or something would be the best way to spend the gift. idk. i don't want to spend it all up on renting guns and buying ammo.

I'm considering getting a concealed handgun too since my city is showing signs that it's the new Compton.

Don't you think that's a bit racist?

No, because I never made any racist remarks, you retard. Saying a city is the new Compton is saying that it's replacing it quickly due to high crime rates and high gang activity. It just so happens that those involved in such criminal acts are African American or Hispanic. The statement still wouldn't have been racist if it were Caucasians or Asians committing the crimes.

The high crime rates and high gang activity in Compton are caused, in fact, by the fact that the population of Compton consists mainly of negroes and hispanics. By implying that you consider your city becoming the new Compton to be a bad thing, you are, in actual fact, being racist. Thanks.

It still wouldn't be racist if the high crime rates were caused by White or Asian civilians. Plus you made a racist post in the other thread. Fuck off, TG.
Another reason why I chose Compton is because I know that Subways are behind glass and laundry detergent is too. So far, only the latter is behind glass in supermarkets so we're not completely at Compton levels.

go try some out at your local gun range. but shop first, cause renting a lot can add up depending what ammunition you're buying. 9mm is the cheapest personal defense round and is a good all around choice for personal defense/novice shooting.
tell the gun range folks that you want firearm instruction and they'll get you started. you don't need a full on class to get started, just general instruction on how to operate the gun and range safety. they won't let you on the range without some instruction if you're a first time shooter with them, but when you're looking to buy your first gun or shoot a rental just ask for instruction. tell them you're never shot a pistol before and they'll likely give you some personal attention and get you started. mostly you need to know how to load the magazine with bullets, how to insert it into the gun and get it ready to fire.
they probably have some classes and stuff you can take, but it might mostly be geared towards concealed carry licenses. in my experience asking for help gets you mostly free instruction, since they really don't want people fucking around. one thing to know is that shooting well does require practice and periodic upkeep, so if you're really planning on concealed carrying for personal defense you have a responsibility to keep in practice which means periodic shooting to keep your skill up. it can be expensive to shoot on a regular basis, so bear that in mind when deciding.
a quick search is showing 9mm to be available at 25 cents a piece round about, and some places as low as 13 in bulk.
.380 isn't better, it's not far off at average around a quarter a piece. today i spent about 40 bucks on 100 rounds, 50 each of 9mm and .380. the 9mm was slightly cheaper. after thousands of rounds it would make a big difference.
another quick search shows the .40S&W my gun shoots now runs between 50 cents and a dollar each. much more expensive, actually.

For Victorville, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon.

you know, i heard about that. laundry detergent is entirely too expensive if people are using it on the street as a currency.

Because you play with dolls and watch ben ten. You aren't advanced enough to be trusted with a gun.

Uhh, I don't watch Ben 10. Where the hell are you getting this information. And you're uncomfortably would the reason why I want a gun, if not more, as is the purpose of owning one for protection.

i was at a gun shop earlier and priced some ammo. idk what the dude at the range was talking about when he said 9mm is a lot cheaper than .380. it's almost the same price and several boxes of .380 were cheaper. again, i think it's caliber queens and their biased misinformation. 40s&w is certainly more expensive in, like, personal defense rounds, they were several dollars more, but again i found a cheap box for almost the same price as 9mm. yeah, if you're talking thousands of rounds then there's a significant difference in the bulk price, but buying 1 or 2 boxes at a time isn't going to hurt at all. there may be a 10% price difference, but when rounds are selling for 13 or 14 cents each we're talking a penny difference. 50 cents a box. at the bulk rate. per box they're all basically 15 bucks for the cheapest ammo.
now, a box of personal defense rounds, yeah, the .40s&w were running easily 30% more for the same type round. or more. there were some really expensive ones.
my buddy who knows guns knows guns because he was a federal officer working for homeland security doing "counterterrorism" at DFW international airport. he's retired after an incident involving the shooting of a uniformed airport police officer. (i've never been able to verify any of this, so i just take him at his word cause he has so many guns.) the shooting was purposeful, by the way, so he says, uh, but legal because of the circumstances. evidently you don't try to interfere with homeland security and, uh, inspect their badge and make them wait cause dude might just shoot you in the knee to get you out of the way.
[massive shrugging]
so, this dude has like a huge collection of guns. shit i've never even heard of. and a bunch of antiques and collector items. a whole room of them. and then all his regular hunting stuff and old cop stuff and handguns just cause they exist. now, that guy has probably at least several thousand dollars in ammunition, maybe even more. he actually gives it to me as a gift sometimes. cause it is expensive, and he buys so much of it. he shoots a lot, hunts, and he's also a kind of prepper. kind of a prepper. he doesn't prep food, just lots of milspec arms and probably a thousand pounds of ammunition. stacked to the ceiling, it is. he could open a gun store right now and probably not run out of inventory for weeks. if i had to put a number on it i'd say he has around 25,000 rounds in his house but i wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 100,000 rounds because i do not know if the lower cabinets were also ammunition. 25000 rounds would fill up a 6 ft bookcase that's maybe 3 feet across and his shit was much bigger.
someone like that, i think i can understand why a 1 cent price difference per round is such a huge deal. i shoot like, 1500 rounds a year? maybe? at the range at least. that's just one free box of ammo saving a penny. and i get that from my buddy, so... i guess not everyone has a friend like that.
does anyone else have friends that just give them boxes of ammo? might just be a Texas thing.

made a decision and bought the Ruger Mark IV .22LR today. it's tits. i wasn't sure i wanted it more than a .380 so we rented one and shot with it first. it's a nice little target shooter. it has rails for upgraded optics and a threaded barrel for a silencer. my brother and i are setting up a gun trust so we can be in possession of class 3 weapons and accessories. if i eventually get to own an ar style carbine in .300 blackout with a silencer that'll be fucking awesome. but that has like a 9 month wait or something rather than a 15 minute background check.
God Bless Texas.
