Yes, I have! I did enjoy the film adaptation for Christian Bale's performance, but I do wish it kept with the ambiguity of whether it all happened or not.

I find that book to be very relaxing during the non violent scenes. Is it considered to be a pretentious book?

I do enjoy Bret Easton Ellis's American Psycho. Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when American Psycho came out in '91, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole book has a clear, crisp message, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the book a big boost. He's been compared to Harlan Ellison, but I think Bret Ellis has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
