I immediately thought that the split second this character was introduced which made it seem like our protagonist was talking to one off camera before they introduced the hologram. It just felt like this is something that is being kept under wraps over at the Google and Amazon laboratories. Plus I'm sure some Japanese company is also working on this as well considering that most Japanese men cannot seem to find themselves a girlfriend.

The film is Blade Runner 2049 and the character is Joi who serves as the main love interest for the main character. She is a holographic projection which can turn that part of her off to just be a disembodied voice much like the current Amazon Echo and Google Home products. She has a much similar role in the films as these products do in real life. The only difference is that she has a body.
