Topic: Not a single country has implemented free healthcare to this day.
Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago#6,995
Why? Because there is no such thing as "free" healthcare.
All that goes into healthcare costs money, and costs someone money. You just end up paying for healthcare indirectly through your taxes, or worse you steal it from your children in a giant ponzi scheme: Make the government take out loans, and have the next generation pay it off.
Also, universal healthcare punishes those who take care of their health, and rewards those that don't. The man who eat sugary food, and gets diabetes and cavities gets to split the cost with the guy who exercises, eats right, and brushes. They both pay the same, but one was less responsible and should have to pay for his own consequences instead of pushing them onto someone else.
> ...or worse[,] you steal it from your children in a giant ponzi scheme: Make the government take out loans, and have the next generation pay it off.
I already have to pay for old people's medicare and social security, and poor people's welfare and medicaid. The government is already defaulting on it's credit, why can't I get some of the benefits?

Ron Paul will pay for social security obligations with money saves from the military and allow young people to opt out of social security.

The free market provides the lowest price and highest quality.

Yep Chinese shit that breaks as soon as you leave the store. Quality stuff. The free market is also responsible for our booming economy. Since you live in fucking Australia under a monarchy, I'm sure you're not in the position to reasonably judge anything about a great and free nation such as the United States of America.
Ron Paul FTW though.

You'd be surprised how few options there are, most American manufacturing companies have gone out of business.
> Government intervention is the cause of your recession...
Are you talking about the bailouts? The bailouts were actually (supposedly necessary) as a direct result of banking deregulations, government intervention was what stopped this kinda crap before.
> My country survived the gfc...
I dunno what that is. I was trollin' about Australia, everybody loves Australia. ;)

Wait until we go to war with China, It will be the war to end all wars. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE HIGHLANDER!

Blame Reaganomics.

Because the price is too high/quality too low. If the product was good people would buy it.
Lolno the fed kept rates artificially low causing bad investments especially in housing. The government also guaranteed several companies. The problem was not enough free market.
Global financial crisis. Australian government legislates on moral issues too much.

I liked Trump's ideas on how to deal with China, I'm disappointed he decided not to run, I think he will next time though.
@previous (.mountainman !4EB6xd.Oos)
Yes they kept them low to stimulate an already stale economy, the bad housing investments (and bonds,funds,stocks etc) were a direct result of deregulation by the Bush administration. Before the deregulation that sort of risky play was not allowed. Free market was the motivation to deregulate, the bankers and housing industry said "if you deregulate we'll all be better off". Turns out a few got filthy rich while America went to the shitter when the house of cards fell (big surprise).

I dunno what you mean by that, but Ron Paul would be my first choice. I want something besides a stuffed suit, a president that actually does something besides war, taxes and more war. Shit has been the same my entire fucking life, no changes, nothing better, in fact worse economically. I'm fucking sick of our nation being so fucked up while we just sit around talking about change. It never happens, nothing does.

"His media tour, where he went out and attacked Obama and China and boasted about why he'd be a great president, started when his stupid reality show was entering a new season, and it ended now that the season was over. It was a publicity stunt designed to draw more attention to Trump and his piece-of-crap show." http://www.cracked.com/blog/i-cant-tell-if-world-being-serious-anymore/
Okay, cracked isn't exactly a reliable source, but it stands true that he said he would run when his show entered a new season, then went back on it when it was over.

LOL. The market is nowhere near free or deregulated. Banks were forced to give cheap loans to minorities. The big companies could do bad investments because they were guaranteed. The government had promised to bail them out if anything bad happened.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did run. I keep up with politics and I'm pretty sure he was serious about running at first. Ah well, we shall see.
@previous (.mountainman !4EB6xd.Oos)
I did not say there were no regulations, I am saying the banking industry was heavily deregulated and it instantly crashed and burned causing massive a fallout in many industries that has left us where we are today. Fucked. I'm no expert on economics, but it stands to reason that if you're buying shit from other countries and they aren't buying shit from you, shit will go wrong. Most of our economy is based on service industries, we buy shit, we don't make it. Free market has brought us here, in a truly free market monopolies would quickly form and bring the whole system to a screeching halt. Its complicated shit, no one solution is perfect.

Basically they encouraged them to make bad investments while continuing to guarantee them. Problem is state interference

Government and big business here go hand in hand. They all wanted deregulation to make money, they made money, we got fucked. Allowing a more free market is not state interference, your claims of the government encouraging the banking industry to crash and burn are unfounded. Lack of interference directly resulted in todays situation.

Government and big business should NOT go hand in hand. It is you, the statist, who suggests that they should!
OK. In a free market, a company can make risky investments. High return but risk of crashing. So it is done carefully.
In our UNfree market, the government put restrictions on investment (i.e. curtailing economic growth) and then guaranteed certain companies (i.e. if they crash the government will pay for it all). The government took off some restrictions (because they realized that they were curtailing economc growth) but continued to guarantee companies. These companies no longer had to be careful about risky investments, because they couldn't fail! The government would pay for their mistakes.
Government intervention caused the crisis.
