There are ways of making weed ready to be eaten. You can bind it to lipids (fat) in butter, and then you will have a butter- cannabutter- that can get you high.
You can bind it to alcohol in a tincture as well.
But if you just take a nug and swallow, you will not even get a buzz.

Yeah, I've done this with a few high proof liquors like 151. It's not particularly efficient, grinding the pot in like a coffee grinder to get it super fine helps.

They could cook the weed in something that gets added to the milkshake, or bind the THC to alcohol and add the alcohol to the milkshake, or bind it to fat, such as a heavy cream, and add the heavy cream to the milkshake. The one thing OP is trying to make clear is that you can't just eat weed. You have to do something to it that "activates" it.
Personally, I can't stand weed and don't smoke it, but I hope this thread has been informative to others.
