Well, that actually makes a statement.
I liked the earlier attempts that strove for meta-humor by remarking on the unremarkable. The humorous release of tension relied on the difference between the realization that you were ironically pointing out normalcy and the reader's expectation that you would only choose to highlight the abnormal. The normal event counterpointing the viewer's expectation focuses the viewer's attention back onto their own feelings of surprise at having their expectations violated for expecting something interesting and searching for meaning. I really enjoyed that flavor of ironic nihilistic meta-humor presented in your earlier drafts.
