Topic: Why doesn't Santa Claus vaccinate children against religion?

Meta started this discussion 8 years ago #69,712

A vaccine is a weakened version of a pathogen so the immune system can recognize and destroy it in the future. To me Santa Claus seems like a really weakened version of religion that even a child can understand is a completely man made myth (how does he visit so many houses? what about houses without chimneys? if the elves made the toy why does it have remains of a Walmart price tag on the package?", etc).

So after Santa Claus why don't children see Christianity and think "hey wait a minute this is just Santa on a larger scale!" I guess some kids do but it doesn't seem as common as it should.

The reason kids stop believing in Santa Claus isn't the inherent absurdity, it's the fact that no actual adult human being believes he's real because they're all "in on the game". The reason presents show up is because parents buy and wrap them, not because a mystical man delivers them. Most adult human beings do believe God is real and they do buy into the idea that there is a supernatural force influencing the universe it created to some degree. They aren't telling their kids about Jesus or whatever because it's a nice story, they are telling their kids it because they believe it themselves.

I remember questioning my faith when I learned santa wasn't real, my reasoning was the same thing.

If Santa isn't real, how can we be sure that reality is even concrete?
