What's the last thing you fried in it?

I haven't fried anything in the lard yet. Last thing I fried in the fryer was chicken fried steak and french fries the other night.

Wait what did you fry in it? Stuff fried in lard is usually pretty fucking tasty.

Beer (well, malt liquor actually) battered chicken and fries. It could be I'm just not used to it yet.

I got this tub at Walmart. Maybe I got the wrong brand?

I am no expert in frying things in lard, so I can't really speak to how to improve it. The fat is generally supposed to add a lot more flavor (just like with steaks or bacon) than vegetable oil though. Maybe Ks can offer some tips.

In all honesty this is probably going to end up like the time I tried Scotch, thought it tasted weird at first and then immediately proceeded to drink gallons of the stuff.

Sounds like fun.

I did another fry and it turned out much better. I don't know why but it seems like the lard has to be broken in. Or perhaps I was just used to the utterly neutral flavor of vegetable oil?

what do you do with the insane amount of used oil you produce? put it in the gutter?

Meta (OP) replied with this 8 years ago, 12 hours later, 22 hours after the original post[^] [v] #837,843

@previous (Fuck Dogg)
I actually produce enough that I could do a good chunk of my driving on biodiesel. However I'm not going to go through all the hassle of trying to buy and convert some old ass Volkswagen diesel Golf to run on used lard.

I pour it into old oil containers or gallon jugs and throw it away in the trash.

I was looking for another article on this subject by a LA Times writer but this one will do

So this is a case where Fresh Fat is not so much so good but at least its not like that nasty oil they favor in China which is really really Used
