Define special.

Serves a purpose, not entirely useless, has a meaning to the grand scheme of things, important to the entire universe. Nothing is important, nothing matters, we're all going to die.

The higher the human population, the faster universal entropy increases. Therefore, every individual serves a purpose, which is to hasten the Heat Death of the universe.

I thought that the heat death is still widely speculative? What about the big crunch? Or the theory that says that the universe will just keep on expanding forever?

Think of the scale of the unbroken line of history that led to you typing at this topic and tell me you are not humbled

1. The heat death wouldn't be the end of the universe, it would just be the beginning of a new phase where all matter has equal energy, so nothing would really happen.
2. The big crunch is very theoretical, and is strongly tied to dark matter and dark energy, both of which are also highly theoretical.
3. This is the most likely thing to happen, but also is very much tied to dark energy, which we don't know much about yet.
In case you're interested in having almost as many smarts as me, I recommend reading the scripts of all the Rick And Morty episodes, and watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDF-N3A60DE&vl=en

Heat death is just the natural consequence of entropy. It's not really speculative.

And doesn't the entropy rest when we do nothing?

No, literally every single thing that happens increases the overall entropy of the universe., including microscopic chemical reactions. When two oxygen molecules bump each other in the air, for instance, that increases entropy.

Space is made up of vast cosmic distances filled with almost no matter or energy. This giant void is sprinkled with areas containing tremendous amounts of concentrated energy that are radiating that energy outward. You don't really have to speculate to figure out that this can't go on forever.
Also, what Anon B said.

I've been wondering what Cathy was referring to here. My guess is that Cathy is confusing overall entropy with the entropy of a particular system here, but I'm not going to go through all the Vsauce videos to guess at what Cathy might have meant.

"Energy will be conserved no matter what you do."
Yeas, Micheal, that is correct. But, Catherine, the Law of Conservation of Energy does not mean that entropy stays the same. It seems you might have an incorrect view of entropy itself. An increase in entropy means an increase in the disorder of a system, not the amount of energy.
