I believe that we never die. I believe that life is in essence movement through multiple parallel dimensions connected by time, and that each universe exists because of it's observer (re: you) and that our awareness exists, as an analogy, like your own image as reflected infinity between two mirrors. Those parallel places exist in time and space as destinations, and you move among them and perceive this as time passing. In reality you exist in all of those places simultaneously but your awareness is limited in it's frames of reference. We are locked at the juncture of time and space, and are not capable of moving freely away from there. Awareness can only float along in the flow of time. But our physical forms exist as part of a much larger structure that exists in many, many parallel dimensions.
When you strip away the requirement of the observers physical form you are left with only awareness. Without any inputs from a physical form you have a 'core' that everything is built upon by the physical form. All perception, memory, experiences --all of that, are imprinted onto this core bit of awareness and from that you get a distinct individual. Awareness at sufficiently high enough complexity becomes self-awareness, and then ultimately consciousness. The brain is the imprinter, of course, but the awareness aspect of it is somewhat illusory. In the same way that sight can be considered a 'trick of the mind,' so goes consciousness.
We don't actually 'see' anything but photons, but our brains do an awful nice job of interpreting electrical signals and converting them into an image of which we are fully aware. Multiple images from our retinal nerve appear to us as seeing objects move. Consciousness works in a similar way, but with many more perceptions than just sight -and a huge reservoir of memory to call upon to compare past events. The trick involved, and this trick exists in more than just human animals, is that your singular awareness exists as a result of the physical bodies need to defend itself, gather food and breed. That makes awareness a very old concept and exists in very low orders of life as well. Human brains have a higher order, awareness of that awareness -but it is still a construct of the brain. All awareness is equivalent, but some have more layers of perception than others.
Again, stripping away all those layers of perception leaves you with only a small core. That core exists for everyone, and if you peel away enough perception that core will also disappear. And yet, we never die.
We exist in many places, and many times. As individual cosmic observers we may expire. But the experience is the same for all. There is nothing more than your 'individual life' that separates us from being each other. And in this way all of our awareness is shared as we create for ourselves an infinitely large multi-dimensional self perpetuating existence.
