She is a World War II veteran who underwent gender transitioning. I personally think that considering that this person went through what sure was hell during the war we should just let xir be transcopter. I cannot imagine what being repressed for that long must have been like. I do have respect for this person.(Edited 4 minutes later.)

She came out to her wife around 60 and she bought her clothes to wear in private. I think she started hormone therapy the same time she came out since I don't see any dates mentioned. At least in this article. She came out at age 90. One reason for not coming out earlier was out of fear of receiving electroshock therapy.
