I always assumed that old money referred to rich people who were politically conservatives and new money referred to rich people who were politically liberal.

But I guess there is more to it than that.

“Ok, Google! What does old money mean?”

Old money is when you come from a wealthy family. An ancestor of yours did something worth a lot of money, and your family has stayed wealthy through the years.

New money is when you actually did something to become wealthy. Be it buying a lottery ticket or creating a startup from nothing, you earned your money, and recently.
