I don't know if the mortuary temple craze got started this early, but, yeah, later rulers definitely had elaborate cults that maintained their tombs long after their death. Khufu and his heirs had insane amounts of labor and resources available, and if there was one thing ancient Egypt had in abundance it was gold.
Looking at the where they think the chamber is, it wouldn't surprise me if this chamber exists because of some late stage change in design or as an access path for builders to finish one of the chambers, so I'm not getting too excited about a hoard of ancient art just yet. I'll still be excited if they eventually turn up a few bent copper saws and some graffiti because even trash from that long ago is really fucking cool.
