It's important to occasionally put yourself in voluntary discomfort.
This is because the animal, Homo Sapiens Sapiens, has the remarkable ability to mentally adapt to its environment.
However, the downside of this is that we begin to take things for granted that we really shouldn't.
Things like cars, computers and synthetic materials are some obvious examples, but it even includes things like regularly being able to eat and having clean drinking water available on tap.
So, at least once a month, give up what you take for granted. Sleep rough wearing minimal weather protection. Go 24 hours only drinking water you can find in nature. Eat nothing and work hard.
This way, every time you take a drink from the tap water, you'll know how marvellous it is to have it. When you sit on your sofa or sleep in your bed, you'll no longer think that it is an "essential item".
Not only that, but you need this experience to know what to do if fate should be fickle and put you in a hard situation - having practiced living with nothing, no loss of material goods or reputation will seem unbearable to you.
This mindset is vital to Stoic practice, and really I recommend it to every person.
They come in all types and sizes nowadays. I'm sure he would find something to fit.

This is not the stoic way. A true stoic would not care about the consequences of what they type, and would instead stoically accept any consequences.
