Wouldn't you wait until after you have missed your period? Why or why not?

No, because women who are trying to get pregnant want to find out ASAP

Why not test every day, then?

Because HCG doubles in the bloodstream every 2 days.

This is a serious thread, thank you

How do you know from which day it has started doubling? Might as well just test every day.

Sure, you can test every day if it makes you feel better. It is each woman's individual choice.

Not everything in life is about maximizing efficiency. Sex isn't, and neither should be pregnancy.

Every day seems wildly excessive and unhelpful. Waiting until after a missed period makes sense.
hot dog water !m5emeBAwvA replied with this 8 years ago, 2 minutes later, 26 minutes after the original post[^][v]#825,772
It obviously should be up to the woman herself. Whether it's excessive or not is irrelevant if that's what the woman wants.

What if the woman wanted to test every five minutes?

Tests are not likely to change from negative to positive in a 5 minute span. They are likely, however, to change from negative to positive in the span of 2 days.

Now you're moving the goalposts. Before it was "whenever a woman wants to it's totally right' (which is absurd), now it's "whenever a woman wants to (with some concessions made for likelihood of new results)". At which point you are where I am, we just don't agree on what thresholds count, but in principle we hold the same underlying position.
To me this is like waiting for your report card in the mail. When it arrives is totally out of your control. Some people want to know sooner and some later, but at the end of the day, if you snatch it from the mail carrier's hand as they walk up to the house, or check the mail five days later, nothing about the state of the world actually changes.

Actually, it's better to find out ASAP whether you're pregnant. There are certain foods you must avoid, pills you have to take, doctors appointments to make, etc. Sooner is generally better.

Sure that all makes sense. I just think you can get too focused on it, like to the point where tests are more about keeping your mind at ease than actually providing valuable pregnancy information. Not to say that there isn't value in having peace of mind but you're not doing it for strictly rational reasons that you can explain to someone else and have them really understand. I guess that's where the disagreement arises.

Seriously anyone who tells me that 3-4 pregnancy tests a month is too much is a literal dickhole. Checking every few days the week before your period starts is not unreasonable if you're excited and want to find out asap.

No one said 3/4 times a month was too many. You were saying 3-4 times a week past ovulation, which is considerably more.

There are only two weeks (generally) between ovulation and period. That makes one week of testing. How long do you think a menstrual cycle is lol

Its pretty excessive. Of course women should be able to test as they please. That isnt the point.
