If you closed your eyes and threw a stone over your shoulder, you would have no reliable way of knowing the precise location it will land. It's pure chance, measured in probability. However, the stone would never have been able to land if it had not been for you throwing it in the first place.
In the same way, the Universe can seem like a connection of random events, some of which are strongly dispreferred, but it's actually a well-oiled clockwork machine, and everything is going as Nature demands it to go.
