All of you NEETS living off of mom and dad and welfare, criticizing a man who works hard for little money. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, and of Capitalism.

You said your check was for three ten hour shifts (correct me if I'm wrong). Triptych said she got the exact same amount for 8 hours.
$256.66/30=$8.56/hr
$256.66/8=$32.08/hr
(I'm ignoring withholding taxes and shit for the sake of simplicity).

Oh I didn't realize. Google says 13.90 Canadian Dollars equals 11.15 US Dollars at the moment. But you have to add the value of your free healthcare (worth quite a bit), but also subtract that stuff costs more in Canada.
Why does stuff cost more?:
In a landmark report issued Wednesday, the senate committee on national finance calls on Ottawa to review its tariff policies, noting that in some cases they protect industries that no longer exist.
“Hockey pants that are brought into Canada, manufactured in China, have an 18 per cent tariff. In the U.S., it’s 2.9 per cent. Why the difference? Maybe we were trying to protect a Canadian manufacturer years ago. But they’re all gone now. That one shocked us,” said Senator Joseph Day, who chaired the senate committee.
Interesting. I remember when Trump proposed higher tariffs on Chinese goods everyone said we'd go to hell in a handbasket. But the Canadians seem to manage.
Also shows that tariffs won't bring the hockey pance manufacturing jobs back.

Bert's also in a low cost area. You have to take that into account too. $10.65 an hour in Knoxville might be equivalent to $20.65 an hour or more in a high cost area like NYC (in terms of having the same standard of living).
How much is food up there? Food here at Walmart is so cheap even the poor are morbidly obese.

Actually make a list of like a dozen items at your local supermarket and I'll respond with prices at my local supermarket (ideally stuff available in both Texas and Quebec).

Ground beef per pound
Bell peppers
12 pack coca cola cans
cheapest 750ml bottle of wine (color/variety doesn't matter just the absolute cheapest)
loaf of french bread
Lipton onion soup mix
Block of cheddar cheese
Head of romaine lettuce
Bag of Lay's potato chips
Something to get like a broad picture of food cost.

God...DAMN. Mine is $2.99 (Bay Bridge Merlot/Chardonnay/Cabernet Sauvignon 12.5%). How does anyone afford to get drunk there? > also what is french bread > do you mean like a baguette?
I think so. It looks like this. I think it's bigger than a baguette. Sort of a bastardized baguette on steroids. It's universally called French bread here.
