Topic: What does everyone think of this Harvey Weinstein ordeal?
kook !!OPZbEQMT1 started this discussion 8 years ago#67,123
Some very famous people have accused him and also accused others of ignoring it.
It also seems strange when certain people are good friends with multiple perverts. Is it a personal problem or just that their peer group celebrities/politicians tend to be perverted?
Or is it even that most men become perverts with enough money and power?

For instance, Meryl Streep who I like as an actress has called Weinstein God while accepting an award and has also personally defended Roman Polanski.
Also Hillary Clinton being friends with numerous perverts and suspected perverts like John Podesta, Anthony Weiner, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Clinton, and that pedo Island guy, Jeffrey Epstein. Why are so many people in their social circles, sex perverts?

Power corrupts, Kook. And absolute power corrupts absolutely.
> most men become perverts with enough money and power...
Almost certainly.

I also found out that celebrities have known about and joked about this for years. Its like a liberals version of a Catholic sex abuse coverup.

Except the Vatican isn't going to whisk him out of the country, promise to deal with the problem, and then set him down in South America to produce films while surrounded by a bunch of young, hopeful actresses like nothing ever happened.

The Vatican has nothing to do with this.
But he has had various people in Hollywood basically feed him victims by moving him around to find fresh meat in new movies.
Why was this allowed for so long do you think?

Everyone had to know or at least suspect it. My guess is he won't be the last Hollywood exec to get outed as a sexual abuser.

Wouldn't surprise me. Hollywood is a sleazy business and a lot of actors/actresses start as kids. That's probably how some of them get roles in movies. I think if it seems like the public is going to take sexual abuse by Hollywood bigshots seriously more victims will be inclined to speak out. I guess it's also possible Weinstein gets fired but never faces any legal troubles and is allowed to continue living his normal life, albeit with a destroyed reputation, and nothing further comes from this.

They have to protect each other, Kook. If one goes down, all of them do. Not just the child predators, but anyone who knew about it and said nothing. This would be a network of potentially thousands of wealthy, influential and well-connected people.
Occasionally, one is thrown to the wolves as a token sacrifice - usually someone eccentric and socially isolated - but even Michael Jackson managed to avoid prison, and Roman Polanski, despite being a convicted rapist, has never been formally sentenced. You can see the extent of the problem - while these individual are not beyond the reach of the law, it is extremely difficult to bring them to justice.

It's starting to make me hate all celebrities (I already hate all politicians) because I look at them and think, you've probably raped a kid. Or your husband has, or your best friend, or your biggest donor.
I used to really like Natalie Portman but then she signed that stupid Roman Polanski petition. Finding out about a celebrity's personal life never works out well.

Yes thats kind of true. I saw a meme thing about that perverts foot fetish that he had inserted into several Nickelodeon tv shows. It was disgusting and a few feet people in reddit justified it. It reminded me of when Falco defended Zootopia.

Why are the old dried out actresses who enabled him now doing cushy interviews about how much they deeply wanted to speak out?
Obviously he's a useless sack of shit, but the story here is that entertainment and media both bent over backwards to let him use young actresses. Watching the same people pat themselves on the back for revealing a 15 year old story makes me want to go hit a kid at his bar mitzvah.

Another thing that bothers me about this. Before these accusations came out, Barack Obama set up one of his daughters to intern with Harvey Weinstein. Due to the extensive background checks done by the Secret Service, he had to find out about what Weinstein was up to. Yet he still sent his daughter to work with him?!

It happens in all circles I think. The amount of sexual predators who have been recently outed (and in one case run the fuck out of town) is wild. Most of them had some form of power, or at the least social capital.

I think that's because it's only those ones that get national attention. If some guy in Bumfuck Nowheresville is a rapist/pedo we never hear about it nationally.

Juanita Broaddrick accused Clinton of rape; Kathleen Willey accused Clinton of groping her without consent; and Paula Jones accused Clinton of exposing himself and sexually harassing her.
Broaddrick came forward in 1999
Willey came forward in 1998
Jones came forward in 1994
