Topic: Will anything in music ever be ground breaking?

In the past, artists and bands like Dylan and the Beatles etc... were massive in terms of the change of music. Now-a-days, there is an unbelievable amount of music, amount of types of music and ways to access that music. Me and my cousin were discussing if anything will ever be so different or ground breaking again. We came to the conclusion that music was controlled by money now, not the people who listen to the music. Anyone fancy a discussion on this?

Hindsight is always 20/20. Most of the stuff that we consider "groundbreaking" today, wasn't necessarily considered groundbreaking back when it was popular and on the charts. It's only when we look back and see how influential it was on the music industry that we call it groundbreaking. I think artists like Trent Reznor were groundbreaking, Michael Jackson was groundbreaking, and I think artists like Lady Gaga have the potential to be groundbreaking. These days there are so many tastes and genres that it's hard for any one band or artist to have a huge influence on the entire music scene, but that's a good thing. I want selection and I don't want one group to have a strong influence on everything out there. I never really like the Beatles all that much, and I think they're overrated simply because their new style took over everything.
