Hopefully, it's just a phase for most. Emo girls tend to do irregular things to themselves in a desperate attempt to be edgy and different. Likewise, to attract attention whether it be positive or negative. There are also others who just find the emo fashion trend appealing, but follow no other emo rituals like cutting themselves or something.
