anyways...People have stepped up and helped me lately...so I was just trying to pay it forward when I saw you were having difficulty also..
are you totally convinced the washer running a cycle would make the mom cat feel that uneasy..
she's been near it running before hasn't she...
maybe it would be ok..
if attachments allow maybe you could pu'll the washer away from the wall several inches and create a tad more room..

one idea is...if you put a cardboard box in another sort of out of the way corner with a nice fluffy towel inside...and set momcat in it when you see her strolling around to let her check it out...she may very well decide to move the kitties there..
a box is good for kitties before they can move around on all their feet..

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as becky, is in fact, cat hair/becky, or as I've recently taken to calling it, cat hair plus becky. Becky is not a moderating system unto herself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning cat hair system made useful by the cat hair corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the cat hair system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of cat hair which is widely used today is often called becky, and many of MCs users are not aware that she is basically the cat hair system, developed by the Cat Hair Project.
There really is a becky, and these people are using her, but she is just a part of the system they use.
