James Caspian, a psychotherapist who specializes in working with transgender people, suggested the research after a conversation with Djordjevic in 2014 at a London restaurant where the Serbian told him about the number of reversals he was seeing, and the lack of academic rigour on the subject.
According to Caspian, the university initially approved his proposal to research “detransitioning”. He then amassed some preliminary findings that suggested a growing number of young people – particularly young women – were transitioning their gender and then regretting it.
But after submitting the more detailed proposal to Bath Spa, he discovered he had been referred to the university ethics committee, which rejected it over fears of criticism that might be directed towards the university. Not least on social media from the powerful transgender lobby.

I feel it's worth noting that, while obviously transitioning doesn't work out for everybody, for some it does indeed work out. Out of curiosity I did a quick read through of some relevant research papers looking at large groups of post-operative transgenders. From what I gather, the research suggests that while quality of life is often lower than that of the baseline population, transitioning did not decrease QoL either and seemed to result in a short-term uptick. One paper even linked this to the quality of the procedure, which was interesting.
As Professor Djordjevic notes in the article, the key issue seems to be that there just isn't enough evaluation being done to check if gender reassignment surgery is the right treatment for a given patient. Therefore, it semes to me that the problem isn't with the reassignment surgery itself, but with who's getting it.
With all that said, I'm very disappointed that Bath University declined to research detransitioning to be "politically correct". Obviously this phenomenon is happening and causing problems, and these academics do the transgender community a disservice by not looking into it. Indeed, such research could help to push for more scrutiny in who gets the surgery in the first place.

Imagine the amount of gender dysphoria there is in countries like Iran who force homosexuals into sex changes just so they could fuck men.

Who knew an irreversible, radical genital surgery could have complications??

Reviewing current research seems rather dumb if the allegation in the original story is true (that the ethics committee refused critical research on the issue because it is socially unacceptable.)
I attended a medical research university. The psychologists and sociologists I knew were very influenced by liberal social standards. Research driven by liberal trends is highly rewarded. Critical review of those trends is largely taboo.
Aside from the whole 'most of your discipline is pseudoscience' thing, that should give you pause.
Also you're a cuck lol.

LOL That National Post article kind of reminds me of people complaining about how NASA is blocking research into the face on Mars.
> Djordjevic, who performs around 100 surgeries a year both at his Belgrade clinic and New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital, is unwilling to give his exact opinion on the apparent rejection, but admits he is baffled
I'm sure he is baffled. The "world-leading genital reconstructive surgeon" isn't listed among its specialists by Mount Sinai Hospital, isn't really mentioned except in news articles about transgender regret, and has a Wiki page put up by one mysterious user about a year ago which is still desperately in need of many citations. I'm sure it's just an oversight though. I'm sure the "world-leading" surgeon's lack of back story is no doubt due to a powerful academic conspiracy trying to keep him silent.
Okay, random Serbian doctor who appeared from nowhere. Keep fighting the good fight against an issue I've never really heard anyone talking about except for you. I look forward to reading about your unwillingness to give exact opinions in the future.

James Caspian, who the National Post article also mentions, seems to be quite credible and well-intentioned though.
“The idea we might use the information from the research that I was going to do in a way that would not help people is completely wrong. The research is necessary to really help people.”
Caspian is a trustee of the Beaumont Trust, a charity that provides education about and support to transgender, transsexual and cross-dressing people. He said he was first alerted to the issue of gender reassignment reversal in 2014, when a Belgrade doctor told him he had been asked to carry out an unprecedented seven reversals that year.
