Remember back when you voted Conservative because you thought they were the best to handle brexit?

How are you feeling about that choice now? Would you still vote for them today?

Of course people want strong right leaning political negotiators. Who would want weak left wing compromises?

@OP
As I explained at the time, Ash, it was a vote based on both likely election outcome and minimising Brexit damage. Like many others, I was expecting a comfortable Tory majority so I voted accordingly.

I never said I thought they were the best party to handle it full stop. If I had voted on that basis, I would have voted Lib Dem.

I’m sorry, ninjj. I, Killer Lettuce, did not mean to offend you by addressing Ash by name. You see, ninjj, it seemed obvious to me, Killer Lettuce, that Ash was the OP. Only Ash would be asking me, Killer Lettuce, about my voting Conservative months after the fact.

Do any of your “third man” parties have much impact on your government? Are there any Libertarians in your senate and congress?

British politics can be a bit interesting because, while it’s usually basically Labour and the Conservatives duking it out, the jostling of our smaller parties can sometimes be a deciding factor.

No not even a little bit. The 3rd parties in the US are a complete joke. Voters would rather vote for an Independent (not affiliated with any party) than a 3rd party.

UKIP are fucked now. Not even I would vote for them ever again. I'm probably going to vote Lib Dem or The Greens.

> Do any of your “third man” parties have much impact on your government?

Not really. We have "independent" politicians, but the moniker mainly serves as a catch-all term for people who run unaffiliated with a major party. They can be from all over the political spectrum. They only really make a difference if there is an issue that runs along party lines and the representation is pretty evenly split; then they can act as swing votes depending on the issue at hand. Most of these independent politicians generally line up with one party or another on most things since a lot of them are just people who lost their official party nomination and decided to run anyway.

> Are there any Libertarians in your senate and congress?

LOLno. Ron Paul served as a congressman, but he only pretends to be a Libertarian when we can't get the Republican nomination.

Yep, looks like it. They went from getting a third of the vote to an utterly dismal performance last election. Getting what they wanted seems to have left them with no future.

Interesting. Such a rigid 2-Party system is certainly different to what we have here. And then, there’s also the Netherlands where the government is always a coalition.

Not to mention that their new leader is a former Lib Dem (who are Remain) and he doesn't want a cap on immigration. May as well just vote Lib Dem. At least we would be able to smoke weed and not worry about censorship.
