Topic: how are you preparing for gun maintenance day?

i'm headed to the gun store after work to pick up some oil and a bag of swabs. otherwise i'm all set. tomorrow i'll be cleaning my old walther, a semiautomatic .40sw that's just a great little pistol, and my dad's old .38 special which is a cannon and is fun to shoot. everyone looks to see what you're shooting. i'll also have my hands on a semiauto .20 mp5 that i'm looking forward to tearing down. it might be the most fun to shoot, it shoots forever. it's like a gun from the movies that never runs out of rounds. i think the mag holds 40 rounds. it's nuts.
then i'll be off to the range to adjust the sights and dirty them up so i can clean them again.

It seems pretty counterproductive safety wise to have multiple guns in the house during a burglary or whatever

i only have .22lr around the house cause i was given a huge box of 500 rounds when i borrowed the mp5. i don't keep any .38 or .40sw on hand cause i didn't get the guns for defense against a home invasion, i bought them for in case of a zombie/animal/robot apocalypse. for home defense i have an oak bat and an extremely excitable and loud hunting dog.

when i got my dad's gun from him it came with half a box of 30 year old .38 hollow tips and he had a mix match of rounds loaded into the cylinder. the first two rounds were jacketed which would leave a potentially more survivable wound, the next two were standard ball ammo, so, more lethal and with greater stopping power, and the last two were the full on lead hollow tips. all of them pretty old. i didn't even want to shoot them they looked so old. the boxed ammo was alright, but the lead was all fucked. the loaded ones though looked sketchy as fuck.
but yeah, apparently my dad had a plan. he wasn't going to kill anyone if he didn't have to.
