Topic: Star Trek Discovery premiere was shit.

SPOILERS MEAN SPOILERS!

It's too late to judge a show just by the first episode and the season looks like it could get better, but it's certainly not off to a good start. It feels exactly like the J.J. Abrams Bad Robot movies and yes, there is a shitfuck of lensflare. It's nice to see something new, but in this instance, maybe it would have been better to cater to nostalgia since that way you would have at least respected the original material and not have made a generic Sci-Fi video game with the label of Star Trek on it.

The ancient Klingons were a nice touch, but you might be more satisfied by playing Skyrim instead.

The episode felt like a mash between Mass Effect and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that would leave someone wondering how come they aren't just playing those games instead of watching a ripoff.

Also, a human being attempts to do the Vulcan nerve pinch and manages to succeed for a short period of time.
This literally makes no sense when the reason why that pinch works in the first place is because Vulcans are a stronger species than humans. I know that character was the only human to have went to the Vulcan science academy, but she's not a damn Vulcan.

This should have been a series set in the Prime timeline, but perhaps it is for the best that it is the Kelvin timeline because it would have fucked things up.

I wanted to list my observations yesterday but I must list them today as the board was not available yesterday.

The woman captain was difficult to understand because of her heavy oriental accent.

Serek the Vulcan pronounces "your" as "yer", as in, "my mind to yer mind".

There was a slim lady whose head was completely hidden by a Daft Punk helmet.

The science officer alien guy was the same very slim actor who has had similar parts in sci fi in the past, where you can't see his real face.

The faces of Klingons are different again, different from the original and different from the next generation. That's a little much. They look like really scary black Africans or New Guinea cannibals. They talk like natives of such lands who distrust outsider missionaries with their Bibles and good wishes and would want them to fuck off or they will be killed and cooked in a big black pot as food. The Klingons were very unpleasant and belligerent, and I felt like they should all be killed, every last one of those miserable son of a bitches.

The Klingon leader had a very gorilla face, flat and black, and looked like Idi Amin.

Also there sure as fuck was a lot of lensflare, like it was the 1990s and someone got to play with photoshop special effects all day.

Meh. First and second season TNG was pretty shit too. Give it time.

Also, what do Picard, Archer, Odo, and Data have in common? Hint: None of them are Vulcan.

oh, one more thing I noticed: the chick's name is Michael, the first female Michael I heard of since Michael Learned, the actress who was the mother on The Waltons a few decades ago.

i'm about 10 minutes in and i'm pretty impressed. it looks outstanding, i'll forgive the lens flare for how nice everything looks for a tv show.

@817,077 (kook !!OPZbEQMT1)
it's star trek. like half the old episodes are just them going around spreading diplomacy, and the rest are the engineers fixing the ship's sub systems while under attack from an alien slow cannon. spoiler alert: they escape. not sure what you're expecting.

i'll follow up after another 10 minutes or so

squeegee double-posted this 8 years ago, 14 minutes later, 8 hours after the original post[^] [v] #817,180

Psh, okay... y'all are just nitpicky faggots then, at 20 minutes in it's already better looking than any other star trek series, and the lest ten minutes were a long action packed EVA adventure in zero G with a fancy spacesuit from the movies. and this is quintessential star trek, routine maintenance mission develops into an adventure of discovery and exploration involving ancient galactic lore and mysterious discoveries. buncha whiny bitches in here, "but the lens flare, and the accents," eh, fuck off.

Good point: none of them are Vulcan, and all of them mastered the nerve pinch.

That's canon.

I really liked it. It felt like good ol' typical Star Trek, but with a modern coat of paint. After seeing the two episodes, I feel invested in the characters and the wider plot.

I'm very excited to see more.

Discovery isn't set in the Kelvin timeline. It is in the Prime timeline with the other Star Trek shows.

But how does Discovery fit into the larger Star Trek timeline? The CBS series will serve as a prequel to the original Star Trek, set 10 years before the adventures of Kirk and Spock. The writers have said that Discovery will maintain continuity with the old series, and events from Discovery will explain plot points in the original Trek.

For Trek nerds out there, this means Discovery takes place in the “prime” timeline, which is where each of the television series and the original films live.

what? no, I merely noticed that the Klingons were heavily made up, looked like, and spoke like what Europeans might have imagined to be the scariest looking savages that they encountered during their age of exploration. Look at the closeup frames of that fucking Klingon leader's face and see it. God damn pointy teeth, fucked up flat wide nose, and blacker than tar.

First Enterprise and now Discovery. It really feels like they saw George Lucas make a bunch of unimpressive prequels and had a "hold my beer" moment. There are so many story lines that you could pick out of TNG, DS9, or VOY to branch out from and expand the Trek universe forward, but they seem to have a raging boner for revisiting the past. Did they find my fan fiction where the USS Retcon goes around and secretly sets every major Trek plot event in motion while saving the universe at the same time?

more what I observed:
No fuck scenes. I never liked it when the other shows wasted my time with fuck scenes. They never show the cunts anyway so what's the point. I'm trying to watch a story anyway, not look for an excuse to pull my dong.

And, the oriental captain had a Mediterranian name, Philippa somebody.

NPR told me the leads were an Asian man and a black woman please stop letting your bias get in the way of racial progress.

Just because the vast majority of successful human endeavors involved white male leadership doesn't mean throwing an imasculate and a woman from a Bronze Age culture together isn't a recipe for success.

Exactly. The myth of Kahless specifically mentions his sword being forged from a lock of his hair. That's a weird myth for a hairless species to have.

Yeah, but it would be like Moses having a tail that could cure snake bites or Achilles' feathers protecting him in combat. It doesn't make any sense if we think these are myths about men.

Plus, Kahless gets cloned up from a blood sample in TNG, and he looks pretty modern for a 1000+ year old Klingon.
