> You mean like nations trading carbon credits? People with privilege they aren't using could sell off privilege credits to those developing privilege?
Exactly.

If white people can sell some of their white privilege to black people, everyone wins.

Okay this is a seriously good Meta thread. When I saw the title I was like "holy shit this sounds exactly like something I'd say".
You've got the basic formula down. Social Problem + Insane Solution = Sarcastic Commentary.

If we're going to do this privilege thing we need a way to quantify it and keep score. Everyone can have a government-assigned privilege score used to allow priority for things like employment, college admissions, medical care, getting a house, etc. So if two equal people are trying to get into college or medical care, the one with the higher privilege wins.
Then, set up a privilege exchange. A family with low privilege can save up, work extra hard and buy privilege for their children. Children will inherit their parent's average privilege ((mom's privilege + dad's privilege)/2). People with excess privilege can sell some of their privilege (or altruistic privileged people can give it away to people they choose).
The problem is, what's to stop high privilege people from having kids, then selling off all their privilege? The kids will have high privilege. It would be unfair to retroactively de-privilege them. Perhaps put a freeze on privilege selling after you have kids?

Now the sarcastic commentary. What I've just described, if implemented, would basically lead to institutionalized white supremacy and patriarchy - the state of affairs the "check your privilege!" people insist already exists. The metacommentary is that "privilege" is pretty stupid and should be discarded and we should just try to get on with our lives treating each other as best we can.

Everyone needs to judge people based on their skin color to stop racism

I just realized the formula last night. it was epiphanic to say the least

nice. very Meta. kind of ghastly and deluded. my original thought was something like offsets in the form of a convoluted reparations program for people to just like monetarily 'check' their privileges w/out quantifying their own privilege because the program would benefit the privileged exclusively and that would have been the irony of it
