Topic: Having a conversation with a typical USAmerican.

Me: So why exactly is the USA the best country on earth? Them: cuz, weel, its the birthplace of democracy, bruh. Land of the brave, home of the free- Me: No, that’s ancient Greece. They had direct democracy and fair government before this guy called Jesus was even born. Them: ok, weel at least we still exist today. Were the oldest suriviving democracy, dude. Me: No, that’s San Marino, which was created around 1450 years before the USA. And it still exists today in the same exact state. Them: stop being such a nerd, who cares about some stupid Spanish country ive never heard of anyways. were the richest country on earth. Me: Depends on what you mean. By PCGDP, we are far behind Qatar and other micronations and only going downhill. By total GDP, we are number one, but China is catching up fast. Besides, do you think just by being rich you’re the best person around? There’s other ways to determine what the best country on earth is. It may be one of the best, but the USA is not the definite best, and it’s definitely not going to stay that way if Americans stay the same for the next ten, twenty years. (The general stereotype is: Ignorant and proud, homophobic, intolerant of anybody that isn’t Christian, racist, only 42% of the country thinks evolution is real, etc; and it’s not too far from the truth) You’ve only got less than 250 years of history, and way less of a distinct culture than a lot of other countries on earth. Please, just be a little more open-min— Them: STFU YOU STUPID COMMUNIST ASIAN! GO BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY! THE USA ONLY WELCOMES THOSE THAT BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY, BLAH, BLAH…

Because the US Constitution gives me the right to both live here and enjoy the good things about it, and simultaneously to criticize it. Thank God for the First Amendment.

Maybe not for much longer. The First Amendment has been very inconvenient for the President, as it's enabled the free media to report his shortcomings. He might just do away with it to stop the inconvenient questions at their source.

Right but you're deliberately making yourself miserable. You could also eat nothing but frozen tv dinners and Lipton soup casserole.

Why do you want to make yourself miserable?

We'll make a Stoic of you yet ?

(if he did only eat frozen tv dinners and Lipton soup casserole, he would be wise to be grateful for being in a better position than the 21,000 people who starve to death every day)

> the 21,000 people who starve to death every day
What's the Stoic position on that? To just stoically accept that suffering is part of life?
