Okay here's how I see it: Nazis aren't shy about killing people. LOTS of people: Jews, gays, black people, etc. You know what happened the last time they obtained power. Given that, is it not appropriate to kill them before they kill you and millions of others?

Being a weirdo libertarian I'm not affiliated with either antifa or the alt right. I do study both sides but I feel no emotional attachment to or fear of either.
It's true there's no threat from marxism, but I also see no threat from nazism. What I mean by that is it will always be an odious fringe movement that only attracts sad fuckups and is shunned by everyone not in it. It could only exist in 1930s Germany. Even if you took Syntax's DeLorean and went back to 1933 and brought back every original NSDAP member to 2017 it still wouldn't work today. You might as well try to reestablish the Knights Templar or the French monarchy. That's exactly how I see the alt-right: a bunch of retards trying to get Louis XIV back in control of France.
The alt-right thrives on fear of them and media coverage of them. If the media stopped giving Andrew Anglin front page coverage 24/7 the Daily Stormer would have died years ago.
Being a Nazi is the quickest and easiest way to get attention. It's very effective, too. Some ugly guy who can't even write well can just throw up a website with 1488 GAS THE JEWS RACE WAR NOW and get immediate, worldwide, front page coverage. If Anglin was an Antifa and started the Daily Worker instead of the Daily Stormer he'd have maybe 1% of the attention he has now. Of course there are probably 10-100x more antifa than alt-nazis.

I came to this realization from Ron Paul actually. Ron Paul is trying to do exactly the same thing the alt-right is. Not the nazi thing, but trying to recreate a dead ideology. Paul-style libertarianism could only exist in the late 18th to mid 19th centuries.

I think you're correct in saying that the true extreme factions aren't getting into power for the foreseeable future. Hell, even Trump's own more extreme policies are having trouble being implemented.
But that said, I feel it's wrong to say that these groups aren't a threat. When you've got Neo-Nazis killing a person and political thugs out beating people up, that's a considerable problem. Not a existential threat to democratic society, but certainly a sign that these groups are emboldened.
