The people who voted for him fall into 2 groups: the ones who swallowed his shtick, and the ones who couldn't stand Hilary. So not only did he lose the popular vote, but a sizable portion of his own 'supporters' don't necessarily support him at all, just the party he ran under. It's mainly the ones who fell for the shtick who are making the noise because things have been changing and they don't like change.
