Not sure what to do...but one thing is you could make a few small signs with a header of 'Lost Cat' and a description and your phone number..

you should go a couple of blocks in each direction and knock on a few doors and tell people of your situation..
might feel awkward...but I'm sure your bud is worth it...and most people will have emphathy for your predicament and then they will be watching for you..
