Google says San Antonio is actually a bit closer to Houston than Corpus Christi. it says Dallas is only 3 miles further away from Houston than Corpus Christi. Is that right?

He just said he "witnessed the devastation" in Texas he didn't specifically say Houston. A large of swath of Texas was impacted and many cities were impacted to a greater or lesser extent.

oh, for sure. like it's humid as fuck outside right now, i'd call it "muggy." and the mosquitoes are pretty bad. being 225 miles away from the worst natural disaster in american history isn't without it's own kind of devastation. just imagine how much OFF they had to douse trump in before he could brave the mosquitoes. and that comes with a significant risk of smelling like pesticide for the rest of the day. and look, everyone knows texas is big but people don't really understand just how big texas IS, so it doesn't really matter if he even bothered to go to a place like Rockport less than an hour away where the hurricane made landfall and devastated the region, or just found the closest rural firestation nearest to the Corpus Christi airport to get a photo op, people will hear he visited a coastal city in texas and assume it's right by the worst of it. he could've driven up the coast to port lavaca, bay city, freeport and galveston, but why bother when there's a crowd of supporters to thank 225 miles from the hardest hit region. 225 miles from most cities lands you in a different state.

But, you're the Houstonian, if you're happy with his administration's handling of this then who am i to judge from dallas? we've got our own problems, there's a gas shortage right now and we just spent the whole day fueling up our company and personal vehicles and i'm supposed to be going to Lubbock this weekend but if we can't reliably get gas then we may be flying or walking i guess...

well, he could agree that climate change is going to have a continuing and worsening impact on our coastal cities, and he could talk about investing in new infrastructure projects meant to shore up our coastlines for future with more frequent and damaging storms. instead of a needless border wall we could protect new orleans from storm surges and houston from flooding. new york will need to deal with sea level rise. regulations could be put in place that encourage cities to not build in flood plains and cities could be directed to improve the way in which flood control systems are developed and managed. no one is blaming trump for the hurricane, but people will blame him for his response.
and it seems like if his response is nothing more than to allocate a bunch of funds to let houston rebuild with the same lax regulations they have in place for flood control, industrial zoning, and insurance then it's just another disaster waiting to happen.
but we're the same way up in dallas, we're idiots letting developers get away with where they're building. we've got explosive industrial peppered all over town, in fact a couple of years ago a huge storage facility exploded thousands of compressed canisters of like argon or something and there were basically 3 foot long missiles launching out of the place while it burned and it exploded over and over and killed at least one person. and this place was right down town, right by the most congested areas of the business district. the explosions shut down freeways and had the whole area ground to a halt for the rest of the day. everyone downtown suspected terrorism and went home. but nope, it was just some dumbass who kept a sloppy warehouse and poorly maintained equipment right in the heart of downtown. that kind shit is everywhere there's a lot of land no one wants, they just pack it with something industrial.

more than a tourist president who spends his time golfing and making bellicose statements. he's half assing everything, dude, and all he cares about is how he looks. that's the only reason he came to texas, so he can later claim he saved us all when in reality he'll do nothing that wouldn't have happened anyway, we'll get money to rebuild houston, some of it, but the reality is that texans are going to be doing all of the actual work. trump won't even lift his pen for texas unless he thinks it makes him look good.

I have been more republican than democrat my entire life.
