One of those "Jesus died for you" pamphlets was in my work break room.
I want to write to the DA and say I found it obscene and upsetting and lost my appetite as a result of the image of a dead man being tortured.
It quotes many scripture verses saying you must accept Jesus or be damned. So, since it doesnt say anything about living a good life, I think it can fall under obscenity charges.
What do you think my chances are? Should I also send somethin to a local paper? Even if it just got people talking about tbis shit I would feel i accomplished something

It would be fucking funny to take a "think of the children" approach to getting that shit shut down. They censor television for less.
Realistically, don't bother. You'll just look like yet another pain-in-the-ass crusading atheist that whines about public crosses and tries to make a big deal out of nothing. Fighting those battles really isn't helping anyone.

It is obscene though. It does have bible verses, and regardless of the lack of any beneficial content to them, the bible itself is a recognized piece of literature so I think it's probably protected. I know they used to read Shakespeare on stage to get past obscenity laws for live sex shows.
It's not artistic in intent though. I must research further. Maybe i will just write the church and see if I can get a reply from them. If I can get them to admit they are intended to be left where anyone can come upon them, including children, it can get some legs.

Wrong! It's helping society and it isn't for no reason. Every child born to Christian parets is indoctrinated from birth (Christians meaning practicing). They are taught lies as truth. They are told their bodies are shameful and taking pleasure in life is a sin. They are told they and people they love can suffer eternally. They are told that god is always watching everything they do.
It's disgusting. Every act taken to fight forced indoctrination, be it compulsary prayer in public schools or religious symbols on government land which suggests government approval of the symbol and thus the religion, is a step forward. It's a step to help children know the truth.
The fact you would even say it is "making a big deal out of nothing" shows how successful the religious campaign against reason has been.
Religion is given a special default respect not given to anything else. Religion is put in danger when it is questioned.
Teach the next generation to question religion, and you are one step closer to a better world.

I'm about as atheist as they come, and I'm all for that. I'm just saying that suddenly making a big deal out of religious imagery that has been common to western civilization for centuries will probably make you look like equal parts attention whore and butthurt douche when the story hits the local press. Pastors and Christian zombies will point and laugh and say, "look how silly and petty atheists are that they have to try underhanded stuff like that!"
On some level, I agree with you. It is a little weird people would think that pictures of a tortured, dying, almost naked man should be handed out or left around for everyone to find. They would probably be the first to cry in outrage if you started handing out BDSM flyers featuring some guy in a Speedo being whipped and beaten. So, yeah... I see where you are coming from. I just don't think it's a battle worth fighting.

People need to learn to question religion. I don't know how much clearer I can make my point.

I live in the US though. I know other countries aren't so religious.

I've thought of it, but it's saturated already, and there isn't anything new I can offer.
