Thanks. I had wanted to try a Fallout game after having heard so much about them. I got New Vegas and it's not bad. Apparently 3 has a lot of problems on Windows 10 so I chose New Vegas instead.

I'm late to this thread, but I would like to affirm your choice. New Vegas is indeed more refined than 3. Also, the story is way more open. 3's main quest is mostly linear, but in New Vegas you get 4 routes to pick.

New Vegas is better. You can have a minimum of 4 different characters or at least I do. The Legion are like Skyrim's Imperials except dicks.

No, he has a point. There are occasional invisible walls around the map. They're on rock barriers, to stop you taking any shortcuts or paths that Obsidian deemed "improper".
They're not a huge thing, you'll only come across them a few times. But I think they're out of place in an open world game like a modern Fallout. If my character can actually scale a cliff, they should be able to get to the top. 3 and 4 didn't have them, so their maps felt slightly more open.

Some of them were on short barriers, not just huge mountains that you have to really force your character up. But yeah, in the grand scheme of things it's pretty negligible anyway. New Vegas was generally very well made.

iirc the fix for fo3 was just installing the windows game app thing or something. it was easy if I could do it. also i liked the dlc for new Vegas best
