Topic: I just started GPU mining Bitcoins.

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #6,510

I'm getting 4800 Khash/s, lol.

If I'm lucky, I'll get a block in a week or two, fuck yeah!

I'm thinking about joining a Mining pool, to make bitcoins faster, but first I'm going to see how long it takes to mine a block solo.

Soon I will have $300 worth of Bitcoins, you jelly?

Oh shit, you're right.

The bitcoin calculator I used uses Megahash/s not Kilohash/s... solo mining, I'll actually only average ฿0.60/month.
lolol, time to join a mining pool!

I just wanted to say you're doing something wrong, and that you should join a mining pool :D
Have fun, soon enough you'll quit haha

Naah, I have a dedicated rig made from spare parts. No reason to quit, since it's not my primary PC.

Anyway, switching to a pool seems like it's going to pay off! I already have 4 shares in the next block discovered on Deepbit, yay!

I overclocked my GPU, and now I'm getting 10Mhashes/s

Fuck yeah.

Is it worth the power bill?

@previous (r04r)
Yes.
I unnecessarily run all sorts of computers and electronics anyway, so IDGAF.

This is my mining operation.

I use python OpenCL bitcoin miner (Poclbm) for GPU and Ufasoft's SSE2 miner for CPU mining.

@OP you won't make any money.

It isn't cumulative, it's competitive. If you let an average computer run for the next 2 years you wouldn't make a single Bitcoin.

It doesn't store how much you make, and add up over time, if you didn't make any Bitcoins this week, you won't make any with that computing power.

If you use a server, or amateur HPC (supercomputer) you would use less elecricity, and less cummulative CPU cycles and make more Bitcoins.

Remember, now that bitcoins are worth $9 each it's harder than ever.

I will make money, the reasons you stated are the reasons that I've joined an up-and-coming bitcoin mining pool.
Pooling with other miners means that together, you find blocks much faster than solo mining, and you get your proportion of the prize based
on how many mini-hash solutions (pools break the blocks down into small workloads, called "shares") you contributed to the pool.

Ah, good idea. Good luck, it's competitive! (but even a small amount is a huge payoff).
