Archaeology
We have 40 different lots, which means 40 distinct events that deposited different kinds of dirt. I have no idea what most of them are.

I've been living on a fucking military base for the last month. I don't know what's going on beyond a few key events (destruction of hospital in 1883, building of hospital in 1839, building of a guard house I forget what year, 1775-6 American invasion and rebuilding) because everything is unclear as hell and the way the lots intersect and overlap is All Fucked Up
Normally you go in numerical order, 1 above 2 above 3 and 4 etc
It's so fucked up that 13 is above 5, 7 and 9 are the same, 30 is above 37

A midden from a 1775 American invasion and the subsequent rebuilding as well as stuff we associate with the building of a guard house in 1770. It's all British, we didn't find any French era stuff. Shitloads of musket balls, cannon balls, gun flints, regimental buttons ,and so so so so many bones

I have to say I was just teasing with that post..
but it's weird how if you went to a local graveyard and started digging up shit and hollering fir your bud to come over and look at the neat diamond ring you found in a old woman's casket...you'd be shown on the evening news being dragged off to jail..
but then if the graveyard gets forgotten about and overgrown with weeds and shrubs and a hundred years go by...its no big deal to have ten people with shovels and a cooler full of beer come along and poke through every thing like it's a normal thing to do..

For one thing, none of the bones here are human as far as we are aware. There was a 3000 year old gravesite found at my last dig last year. They immediately shut down the operation until this year and in the meantime consulted the city and the native people and hired bio archaeologists who specialize in this. There's a shitload of permits and paperwork and mediating between the city and the people to whom the body belongs.

I know...but you mentioned the term prehistoric..
they carbon date shit and say it's four million years old...or two million years old...like they know wtf they are talking about..
and I suspect that they are full of shit..

...prehistoric as in a few thousand years old, in this case. Human prehistory (here, at least). Also you can't carbon date past about 50 000 years ago. Also also, carbon dating is legit. Carbon 14 has a known half life of like 5370 years. It's simple math.

How is that related to creating and using a calibration curve, the same process which is used for a million different things. One of the earlier tests of carbon 14 dating was two Egyptian tombs (which we already knew the dates of from other methods) and it matched up
