Knives and forks make chopsticks obsolete. They are more practical and don't make you look stupid. Just use a knife and fork.

The Chinese used to use a knife and fork, but Confucius argued that a knife, an instrument of death and war, should not be used at the dinner table, as it is unseemly, so they switched to chopsticks.

Also, the Chinese see the idea of a chef plunking a giant piece of meat in front of you, and making you cut it up using cooking tools, ad uncivilized and unrefined. Chinese food is in bits-sized pieces and is delicate, to be picked up gently one bite at a time.

You're right. Using metal tools is barbaric. I better find some wooden sticks to pick at my food with to appear civilized.
