Topic: How the fuck is my upload speeds so low?!

Lena of Babylon !TGirlYJKXM started this discussion 9 years ago #64,390

My Internet package says we're supposed to get at least a maximum of 100mbps.

Yet my Switch is getting around 384.0 Kbps DL and 30.5 Kbps UL which isn't even enough to play Splatoon 2 which requires at least 1 mbps of UL speed.

This is the highest tier that fucking (Charter) Spectrum offers. Here are the results of a SpeedTest I just did while writing this.

Is it possible to run an ethernet cable to different rooms of a small apartment just so we can get the two desktop computers off the wireless network? Also, what is a good router to upgrade to for around eight devices or so?

Even for an ISP that promises "The Fastest Internet Ever at 100mbps"?

Brie told me that he pays for this amount and his Speedtest results fucking triple mine.

Plus I am only a few hours drive from Los Angeles.

Every commercial from every company promises shit like that. Spoiler: It's never true.

I'm sure it's true in some universe where you also get nationwide coverage and unlimited data.

I wish I could but I am not authorized to speak with them. I actually did call them that and they told me what I already knew. My brother has to call since the bill is under his name, but all he has to do is add either me or my mother as someone authorized to speak with them. Good luck getting him to do that due to laziness and if you dare mention it he gets irritated and mad.

Cathy Cathy Cathy

Nowhere anywhere does Spectrum say you can get 100MPS Upload.
Expect about 10% of Download max speed.

> 384.0 Kbps DL and 30.5 Kbps UL

So why on earth settle for Dial Up speeds?
Here in San Diego we will soon have 300MBS and some parts of SD County already have that. Modems have to be switched out - To even get 100MBS I had to switch over to a newer Modem - Old one limited me to 30MBS or so. I also have service from Cox which is only 50MBS.

What you need to do is to go to your local Spectrum office and just discuss - No need for an account for a discussion. You can say you are a new customer looking at options.

Frankly SOMETHING IS SUPER VERY HORRID RONG with Wot you got. Any neighbors you are friendly with who will let you connect up quick one of your gizmos and run the speed test?

Dial Up speeds or worse? Hey here is an Ideal - Put the Hormone patch on the Modem and C if that works

That test you see was with a server in San Diego - I just re-ran using a server in Los Angeles - Almost the same results with a surprising more better Ping rage by 2MS

She is using Wifi in an apartment complex. There are probably at least 20 other wireless routers and one hundred plus devices in a small area all trying to use that little slice of spectrum. You of all people should understand how much that can slow down a wireless net connection.

Just to show that the difference between wired and wireless is a big deal, here is my speed test result on Wifi... will follow up with wired result.

Here is the Wired speed test result, what a difference!

@OP
I recommend you run an Internet cable to your bedroom or at least see if you can change your router settings if you must use wifi.
Try analyzing the wifi use in your area and picking the least busy channel to broadcast on.

Yes indeed the first thing to do is to Run a Hard wired connection where ever possible. Modems usually have at least 2 to 4 hard wired outputs so it is easy to do this test BUT BUT
> 384.0 Kbps DL and 30.5 Kbps UL

Like no matter how many in his community are on his Node - No way NO WAY can speeds get that LOW

Except in the page where you pay your bill and see everything your package covers. It also says up to 100mbps not 'get'.

@801,081 (H)
He needs to authorize me. His name is on the bill. Only he can speak with them. I don't dare bring it up because it'll piss him off being nagged at and it could lead to a fight. He's also too fucking lazy to do this himself. I don't think he even has to call, just log into his account and authorize us. Either he is too lazy or too tired from work to do anything. Maybe both. I tried calling them up before but they just told me I am not authorized and that he has to call them or authorize me.

Damn it Cathy - No way no how does the speed drop below say 70% - What you are getting says something is terrible beyond reason WRONG

How about taking your portable computer to a neighbors and trying it on their Modem

I've set stuff up with this company for friends and family before using just the account number and name on the bill. If you're just asking about problems or activating a box or something it shouldn't be a big problem.

My last post for the day as it is Sat and much fun rest of day n evening with no room for net play.

Spectrum has a bot that does a good job at pinging the Modem and running an analysis - Techs on phone can do the same ping and see how well the signal is received and also look at integrity and a few more parameters. So if Cathy can get customer service to do that?
Calling with just the phone number and saying internet support should be all he needs to do. The bot will run and tell him things are?

Anyway out of here ya all have a fun day/nite

Anonymous I replied with this 9 years ago, 1 hour later, 17 hours after the original post[^] [v] #801,189

@801,121 (Syntax)
It was probably just what it was using at the time. Otherwise there's probably a problem with the Switch and not the router.
