Wow, this article is from 2005. I have 2 major problems with this. First of all, it says in the article that he "taunted" her but all it says is that he said "How is your daughter?" Maybe we're not getting the whole story, but then again, maybe he just felt sorry and really wanted to know how she was. Maybe the mom is just fucking psychotic. Second, the man was doing his time, and had already served out most of the 9-year sentence. I could understand her wanting to take justice into her own hands if he had gotten off scott-free, but the guy was doing time for his crime and she burned him to death. Then she conviently doesn't remember a thing.
Now, if he served 6 years, doesn't learn a thing, and goes back there on a 3-day release just to gloat, then yeah, sick fucker deserves to die, but the article doesn't specify how he gloated, just that he asked "How's your daughter?" It's extremely unlikely. She has obviously been mentally unstable since her daughter's rape, and after being provoked she obviously just lost control. It doesn't justify it, but her actions are more understandable.

From the limited information available, it would seem that the woman was probably in a dissociative state at the time she committed this offence and was therefore not responsible for her actions. If this was the case, she should have been found not guilty. I would be quite interested in knowing the outcome of the trial. Has anyone been able to find any further info on this case?

I must admit that I find it a little bit hard to be completely objective when it comes to this particular crime as well. In my case, it is because my daughter was also raped when she was 13, so I kinda understand how this woman would have been feeling at the time.
If she was aware of what she was doing at the time, which seems likely, she committed a truly horrific crime, and should have been punished accordingly.
If she really was guilty of murder, I don't think the court should have given her an early release just because of the public's hatred of pedophiles, which is what seems to have happened.
